Did you know there are other ways to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day besides getting blackout drunk?
Yeah, St. Patrick’s Day is actually a cultural heritage and religious holiday honoring the death of St. Patrick, the patron Saint of Ireland. Over 150,000 New Yorkers will be marching tomorrow in celebration of their Irish heritage, and we put together a little guide in case you want to know where and when to join in! Or, in case you need to know the parade route to avoid it all costs. We’re predicting drunk people will still find a way to be annoying at the parade, regardless. READ MORE…
We have a winner! ‘Americanah’ by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has been named the winner of NYC’s One Book, One New York Initiative!
The selection was made after fifty thousand votes were cast throughout the month of February, and now New Yorkers are encouraged to read the novel simultaneously over the next few months. The story centers around two young Nigerian lovers who depart to two different cities in the Western world. Ifemelu, the protagonist, heads for America, where her life as an immigrant changes her perspective on race and identity. TALK ABOUT TIMELY, GOOD CHOICE Y’ALL. So what are you waiting for? Go pick up a copy at your local New York Public Library, or download the audiobook free online in the next 90 days. If we all do it, we could have a book club discussion on the subway. How cool would that be?! READ MORE…
Mmmmhmmm, once again, BYEEEE TRUMP.
Cheeto Demon’s latest attempt to ban immigrants and visa holders from six predominantly Muslim countries was once again blocked by two Federal Judges in Hawaii and Maryland, respectively. DT issued Travel Ban 2.0 on March 6th, hoping to sneak past the courts by removing some of the more glaringly horrible elements. But obviously, the ban was still super discriminatory, with the Hawaiian judge pointing out that even to an outsider the ban was clearly “issued with a purpose to disfavor a particular religion, in spite of its stated, religiously neutral purpose.” AKA NOT THIS TIME, NOT EVER TRUMPY. When’s the last time you went out to see an art exhibit and got a classy dessert to go with it? But that’s too much! Much too much, both time and money!
Maybe that used to be true, but now: there’s Pastry Song— or to be proper, Pâtisserie Chanson, as it’s actually called. Grab your date or maybe just spoil yourself, because when March 20th comes you’ll want to be in this Flatiron bakery. It’s got bon-bons, it’s got eclairs, petit gateaux— you know? There’s a lot going on here. Even better, on April 6th its downstairs dessert bar is opening, featuring “The Art of Dessert,” which is enticing enough to stand on its own without further description. Think a night at the symphony sounds kinda boring? THINK AGAIN!
Symphonic Storyboards is a one of a kind, immersive concert series, that blurs the lines between a traditional concert and a film festival. Filmmakers were tasked with creating a short film around selections of classical music. That’s right, creating a film around the score instead of the other way around. Bonkers. Winning selections will be projected accompanied by a dazzling light show while the Philharmonia Orchestra of New York effortlessly scores the films below. You have to see (and hear) it to believe it, and lucky for you we’ve got the hook up for discounted tickets for the March 21st and 22nd shows at Jazz at the Lincoln Center. READ MORE…
St. Patrick’s Day is also known as the Feast of St. Patrick, so it’s only appropriate to chow down Irish style.
We sought out 8 traditional Irish dishes, and the best places to get them in NYC, for all you hungry Irish men and women out there. We’re currently drooling over Irish breakfast (more meat please), and Irish Stew (more meat please). I guess we can take a break from the meat for some sweet, delicious soda bread. And then have fish and chips. BRB we have to take our heartburn medication to prep. READ MORE…
It’s okay to cry.
Especially in NYC, where we all are basically working paycheck to paycheck just to afford to live here, let alone follow our dreams. Plus according to multiple surveys, and all of our personal experience using dating apps, New York is one of the hardest cities for finding love and dating. And we have like zero time and are pretty much always on the go. So basically, if you live here, there is a very high chance you will find yourself crying in public at one point or another. And if you’re going to do it, do it right!READ MORE…
