Respected friends, I just got off the Senate floor, where I spoke in honor of the 7th anniversary of the signing of the Affordable Care Act. I talked about what I believe matters in this debate: The inspiring and often heartbreaking stories of those who rely on the Affordable Care Act, some of which I was honored to share today. The fact that premiums will rise dramatically, particularly for seniors, and that 24 million fewer Americans will have health insurance if the GOP plan passes. The idea that healthcare is a fundamental right and a promise we should make to ALL Americans -- not a privilege reserved for a wealthy few. Soon, the House will vote on the GOP’s catastrophic plan to repeal the ACA. The vote is expected to be very close and could go either way. Your voice could be the difference between victory or defeat, which is why I’m asking: Can you add your name to our urgent petition calling on members of Congress to oppose the GOP health care plan? Ultimately, I believe this bill is about our morals. The plan the House is voting on is a values statement and it is not a good one.  The only thing that gets healthier are the insurance companies' bottom line at the direct expense of you and your loved ones. If it passes, you and countless others will be at risk of losing your health insurance or facing higher premiums. That is what is at stake right now. We need you to make your voice heard. Sign this petition, make calls, and take action as you can. It will make a difference in this fight. Dear Friends,   My name is Sam Koplinka-Loehr. I work as a nanny for two kids where I live in Philadelphia. I am also a part-time community organizer with the National War Tax Resistance Coordinating Committee (NWTRCC). Besides having a very long name, here’s the short version of what we do: we support people who refuse to pay federal income taxes that fund war and redirect their tax dollars instead.As we approach tax day on April 18th, Trump's proposed budget for the coming year promises increased military spending and drastic cuts to discretionary spending. In this moment I write to say we are not alone, and there are more comrades than we realize. Can you give $25 today to support WRL’s work—to Disrupt, Resist, and Build—for the coming year?

War tax resistance is one way to challenge the violence and oppression of our government. From federal prison cells to Standing Rock to the streets of Ahwar in southern Yemen, our government is targeting Black, Brown, and Native people for destruction. Whether by drone strikes or police bullets, the U.S. government is in the business of maintaining white supremacy with violence--a business paid for by our tax dollars. This coming year, an estimated $1.4 trillion, that's 48%, of the federal budget will go to the military. On top of that, an additional $23 billion will go to federal prisons and law enforcement, not to mention the military equipment that is transferred to local police departments and used in our streets.

War tax resistance is direct action, literally refusing to pay for state violence. Instead, war tax resisters redirect money to resistance led by Black, Brown, and Native, and working-class organizers.
