Happy International Women's Day, y'all! Have you told the women in your life how important they are today? GOOD.
Here's a bunch of other ways to celebrate lady power in NYC.
We're getting a little misty-eyed, reminiscing about January's awe-inspiring Women's March on NYC– which was only the beginning. ICYMI, women around the world are on strike, refraining from shopping, and wearing red in for 'A Day Without a Woman.' Even Lady Liberty got the memo. Take care of yourselves today, ladies. Plan your next getaway, our own jetsetter can help you out with that– daiquiris in Cuba sounds good to everyone? Or turn out for NVR Sleep, a LIT Williamsburg dance party, to dance away the stresses of lower wages, vulnerability to discrimination, and job insecurity. Urgh. It's gonna take a lot of dancing– RSVP here. Heads up, a bunch of NYC restaurants have closed in solidarity with 'A Day Without Women' as well, so you might want to double check those dinner plans. This 11-year old girl shared why she thinks the strike is important, and we're not crying, YOU'RE CRYING.There's also another new gal on Wall Street and we hope she's here to stay.
YES ALL WOMEN!!!
It’s International Women’s Day! And NYC is the perfect place to celebrate. I mean come on, this is liberal paradise. Whether or not you were able to strike and take the day off from work, we recommend you check out one of these femme-tastic events going down today. It’s what Susan B. Anthony would want. New York’s largest and most fabulous lady got a head start on ‘A Day Without A Woman’ last night, and went dark for about two hours.
The National Parks Service says it was probably because of new emergency planning tests, but come on… your secret is safe with us… we know Lady Libs is a fearless feminist, and was totally striking in solidarity with the Women’s Strike. All she needs now is a red robe and a giant pink p*ssyhat! READ MORE…
Wall Street’s iconic bronze ‘Charging Bull’ statue has finally met its match— FiDi got a new resident early Tuesday morning, in the form of a four foot tall bronze statue called ‘Fearless Girl’.
The sculpture depicts a young girl, standing firmly and confidently, with her hands on her hips, facing down the giant angry bull. The installation was intentionally timed with International Women’s Day, and hopes to draw attention to the need for more women in leadership roles in business, and acts as a symbol to women’s ability to face down any adversity. They say truth comes from the mouth of babes. That’s what makes this op-ed on the importance of today’s Women’s Strike so poignant.
11-year-old Greta (whose fav animal is a fox BTW), makes some important points on why women deserve to be more valued by society, such as their contributions to sports, music, entertainment, and probably the most glaring reason: BECAUSE HUMANITY WOULDN’T FREAKIN’ EXIST IF WOMEN DIDN’T HAVE BABIES. Greta is right, women are not only important but like, THE BEST, and let’s hope today’s strike helps people appreciate that fact even more. READ MORE…
The next installment to our ‘New Yorker Abroad’ series is here!
Our fearless travel correspondent (who we are totally NOT totally jealous of lol okay, we’re cool, we’re cool), voyaged to Cuba, and she put together the ultimate guide for the perfect Cuban weekend getaway! First of all, she lets you in on how to prep, what basics to expect, and then she gets down to the good stuff: like where to get the most authentic Cuban cuisine, and the freshest daiquiris. Or you can pretend you’re on an old time-y getaway by smoking a cigar while you get chauffeured around in a vintage convertible. Pardon me, gotta go buy my plane ticket ASAP. READ MORE…
Hip-hop producer and spoiled Media Creative Director, Rodney Hazard—along with The Culture LP—turned things up last month Kinfolk 90 in Williamsburg for the 1-Year Anniversary of NVR Sleep.
It was dope. This month? THIS MONTH?! Oh, man. It’s going to be stupid. This month it’s time to turn up for Across the Pond featuring the FML-HOW-AMAZING-IS-THIS-SH*T? talents of Nasty Nigel, Jamaal Fisher, and other special guests. For a taste of what’s to come, check out this fire playlist they put together. Seeee youuu theeeerrrre! READ MORE…
New Yorkers are the bomb, and many New York restaurants are closing their doors today in solidarity of ‘A Day Without A Woman’ strike.
If you want to support to movement, we recommend staying in and cooking your own meal, then going out to eat at one of the restaurants that closed its doors today as a means of thanking them for standing with the movement. Plus, who has time to go out to eat today, anyways? Amongst all the other ways you can celebrate International Women’s Day, there is a protest rally happening in Washington Square Park at 4 pm. Ya know, in case you couldn’t join the estimated 470,000 marchers in D.C., today. READ MORE…
