Respected friends,
Tell your Senators: Protect our National Monuments, reject David Bernhardt!

Donald Trump has nominated David Bernhardt -- an oil industry shill and climate denier -- to be Number 2 at the Department of the Interior. If he’s confirmed, Bernhardt will play a key role in deciding the fate of our National Monuments and public lands.Bernhardt’s confirmation hearing in the Senate is happening today. So we need you to speak up and help stop him from being confirmed!Tell your Senators: Reject David Bernhardt -- a Big Oil crony -- for a key position at the Interior Department! David Bernhardt served in George Bush’s Interior Department as the top lawyer in charge of ethics and legal compliance. During his tenure, the agency’s staff interfered with the scientific integrity of the Endangered Species Act.Then, he joined the lobby firm Brownstein, Hyatt, Farber, and Schreck. The firm has a financial stake in destructive fossil fuel projects around the country -- projects Bernhardt would have a say in if he’s confirmed to join the Trump administration. His firm is tied up with a project in California that would pump groundwater beneath the fragile desert and sell it to urban water agencies. This would dry up the springs that feed Mojave Trails National Monument. And it would harm bighorn sheep, bobcats and other wildlife. Bernhardt’s lobbying firm could gain millions of dollars if the Interior Department approves the permits for the project to move forward. This is a clear conflict of interest. The Senate cannot hand over our National Monuments to someone who could profit from destroying them!
Tell the Senate: Don’t hand over our National Monuments to Big Oil!
Last month, Donald Trump signed an Executive Order that could open many of our wild places to drilling, mining and logging. Bears Ears National Monument, Grand Staircase-Escalante, and the Grand Canyon Watershed are all at risk.
Now, he’s trying to put an oil lobbyist in charge of what happens to these monuments.
The Senate can still stop this from happening. Trump’s attacks on our environment have been so extreme that even some Senate Republicans are uncomfortable with them. All we need is to convince a handful of Republicans -- and every Democrat -- to vote no on Bernhardt’s confirmation. But we need your help to make that happen.
Tell your Senators: Protect our National Monuments, reject David Bernhardt!
Standing with you,
Ben Schreiber,

Some 200 Muslim Arabs rioted and threw rocks at passing vehicles near the village of Huwara in Samaria on Thursday.
This is the third time this week that hundreds of Arabs blocked the main road going through a village leading to Israeli communities in Judea and Samaria, and stoned the Israeli cars passing through.
A number of vehicles were stoned early Thursday afternoon but they managed to escape, having sustained heavy damages. One motorist, however, found himself in mortal danger after his vehicle had been attacked with cinder blocks with his front windshield smashed, and opened fire at the rioters in self-defense. One of the stone throwers was killed and another was moderately injured.

Edouard Ferrand
