More than three quarters of a million people across Europe have now signed the official Stop Glyphosate petition (ECI) -- but we mustn't slow down! The European Citizens Initiative needs to be backed by at least one million EU citizens.

The Guardian revealed just yesterday that the European Food Safety Authority dismissed a study linking glyphosate to cancer following counsel with a US official allegedly linked to Monsanto and who figures in more than 20 lawsuits. We must stop glyphosate, and this ECI can really help!

Every sailor agrees that a big part of what makes a sailing holiday so special is trying out the local cuisine. Every destination is unique, so enjoying that country’s specialties is also one of the ways of getting to know the culture and people better. This time we have selected the most famous dishes served in the Mediterranean’s hottest destinations.
| ||
Paella (Spain) - this internationally known Spanish dish is definitely a favorite in the summer among the locals. The dish is rice-based and the most popular version is the one with seafood (Paella de Marisco), which most often includes shrimp, mussels, clams, small lobster tails, calamari, shellfish, etc. Naturally, meat and vegetables added to the paella depend on the region in Spain.
| ||
Greek salad (Greece) - one of the best ways of staying fresh in the summer is enjoying the Greek salad, or Horiatiki, as they call it. The traditional version will always include slices of tomato, cucumber, onion, olives and, of course, feta cheese. The obligatory seasonings are salt, oregano, olive oil, vinegar. If you happen to sail near the Dodecanese islands, you will taste green peppers and capers, too.In case you are still not full, gyros is the answer. Similar to kebab, this famous Greek meat cone is cooked on a vertical rotisserie and wrapped in a flat-bread or pita, filled with lettuce, tomato, onion and tzatziki sauce. Traditionally, the meat used in gyros is pork or chicken, but outside Greece it is served with beef, lamb or veal.
| ||
Pašticada (Croatia) - this traditional Dalmatian dish includes slow-cooked beef prepared in a special red sweet and sour sauce. As it requires a long and careful preparation, it is usually made for special occasions. The dish is usually served with homemade pasta or gnocchi. Another twist is Dalmatian tuna pašticada, which includes marinating the tuna overnight before putting it in the red sauce for additional flavor.
| ||
Pizza Margherita (Italy) - definitely the most recognizable staple of Italian cuisine in the world, named after Queen Margherita of Savoy for whom it was created in Naples in 1889. The pizza was meant to resemble the colors of the Italian flag: red - tomato, white - mozzarella, green - basil. Of course, nowadays toppings are diverse and pizza variations endless. Italians usually eat it for lunch, and serve it as a whole on a normal-size plate without pre-cutting it.
Now that you know everything, bon appetit!
