Folks -- Jon Ossoff is under ATTACK from all angles:
- Shady right-wing SuperPACs have flooded the Georgia airwaves
- Paul Ryan just launched a HUGE ad buy to smear Jon’s name
- And Donald Trump came to Atlanta to hold a MEGA-fundraiser for our opponent
We have a chance to deal Trump his first defeat and pull off the biggest upset of the year!
But we need Democrats everywhere to rally behind Jon in the Georgia Runoff if we’re going to stand a chance of winning. So we need to know:

Tuesday night massacre? |

FBI Director James Comey was fired last night in what experts in authoritarian regimes are calling a “shock event.” You may recall Comey from his starring roles potentially costing Hillary Clinton the election and, more recently, investigating the Trump administration for possible collusion with the Russian government. The White House wasted no time calling for an end to the investigation — while Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway managed to completely contradict the administration in record speed.
|
Numerous Republicans have criticized Comey’s firing, which came days after he requested additional resources for the FBI’s investigation. But some people are celebrating, including the Trump advisers at the heart of the Russia probe.

Friends,
We’ve just plunged into a constitutional crisis.
We’ve just plunged into a constitutional crisis.
Join Public Citizen and millions of Americans in demanding a special prosecutor to find out what’s really going on with Trump and Russia, and whether the Comey firing should be considered obstruction of justice. Let’s start with what we do know: President Trump fired FBI Director James Comey, following a recommendation from Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.
Trump’s rationale for the firing was Comey’s mishandling of the Hillary Clinton investigation. The FBI is currently investigating the Trump campaign for improper ties with Russia. Sessions has previously recused himself from matters related to the Russia investigation. From these facts, two conclusions seem almost inescapable. First, it is utterly implausible that Trump fired Comey over misconduct that aided the Trump campaign and arguably swung the election. There is a very good case that Comey should have been fired for that misconduct — there’s just zero reason to believe that’s why Trump acted. This justification gives pretext a bad name. Second, it is incredibly difficult to imagine that the Comey firing was not connected to the Russia investigation.
Sign our petition demanding a special prosecutor. At Public Citizen, we’ve remained agnostic over what role Russia had in the 2016 election, and particularly whether and how Russia may have coordinated with the Trump campaign. The allegations are serious and need independent investigation, but we have not presumed and still do not presume to know what such an investigation will find. But Comey’s firing is itself intolerable and an assault on our democracy. Our democracy will wither if the president believes himself above the law and empowered to fire law enforcement officials for the “crime” of investigating the president’s wrongdoing.Democrat, Republican or Independent — every American should be alarmed at the Trump Regime’s rush to authoritarianism.
Where do we go from here?

Where do we go from here?
- At this point, there is no way for the FBI to credibly conduct an independent investigation into the Russia allegations. We need both a special prosecutor and a congressionally created independent investigative commission to get to the bottom of what, if anything, happened.
- There equally must be an investigation into the Comey firing itself. In this special circumstance, the FBI should be directed immediately to disclose all ongoing criminal investigations related to the Trump campaign and the Trump administration. It’s possible that there are other, non-Russian motivations for the firing. And the Justice Department and White House should disclose immediately all correspondence related to the Comey firing.
- Attorney General Jeff Sessions must be removed from office immediately. He violated his pledge to recuse himself from matters related to the Russia investigation.
That’s only the start. The investigations might well lead us into graver territory.
This is a test for America.
This is a test for America.
Let’s make sure we — all of us — meet the challenge.

Robert Weissman

Respected friends,
Millions of Americans rely heavily on the internet; it often plays an integral role in our lives. It enables free, easy access to information. It facilitates commerce. It allows us to reach friends and families who are far away. It opens up our world. We believe in a free, open internet. But without the FCC rules on net neutrality, internet service providers (ISPs) would be able to rip off consumers and even control access to content.
Want to understand more about what's at stake, and have a good laugh in the process? Watch comedian and host John Oliver's spitfire take on why net neutrality matters. (So many people took action after watching this clip that they crashed the FCC website.)The free, open internet makes it possible for us to organize online, to provide patch thru phone calling for our activists to reach out to their legislators. Right now, the internet is a public utility; imagine the internet as a product of Comcast and Verizon.Sign now if you agree: the internet should remain free and open in the United States, and that means the FCC must continue to enforce net neutrality rules.
Thank you. See you out there in the fight.
In solidarity,
Andrea Miller
