This Mother's Day, you have the chance to help save monarch butterflies while bringing a smile to someone you love.

Each fall, hundreds of millions of these striking black-and-orange butterflies take flight on a 3,000-mile journey across the United States and Canada to wintering grounds in Mexico's Sierra Madre Mountains. Sadly, however, monarch butterfly populations are plummeting and their annual migration to Mexico is in danger of collapse. In fact, the number of monarch butterflies has declined by more than 80% in the last 20 years. What's to blame? Toxic glyphosate-based herbicides like Roundup are killing off native milkweed plants that monarchs need to survive. Milkweed is the only plant monarch caterpillars will eat. So no milkweed...means no monarchs! That's why NRDC has partnered with Monarch Watch to get 100,000 milkweed plants in the ground at schools, churches, garden clubs and on tribal lands across the monarch's migratory path to help save North American monarch butterflies.
