Heads up fam, free ice cream at Häagen-Dazs today.
You might want to sit down for this one– we're giving one lucky duck free rent for one whole year . Seriously. Okay, we know spring kinda just got here, but we're so ready for Summer '17. So ready actually that we're inviting y'all on a two hour booze cruise around Manhattan. Can you hang? There's some other pretty lit stuff going down this month too– party now, stay inside and binge the new Orange is the New Black in June. This is also the perfect opportunity to switch up your usual bar routine... really, it's time. ICYMI, the sequel to a small indie feature, Guardians of the Galaxy , flew into theaters over the weekend. We also had the chance to sit down with Lea Salonga, who is basically an actual Disney Princess.
Okay, so we’ve kinda got a while before summer actually starts, but you know what? F*ck that. Solstice Schmolstice. Summer 2017 starts when we say it does. Summer 2017 starts when we get white girl wasted on a big ass boat cruisin’ around our beautiful city. You’re coming, right? READ MORE…
Okay, so it’s already May. Technically. WHATEVER. This month, we’ve got dope dance parties, yummy food fests, and rosé for days. Really. Literal days. But you can never have too much rosé, in our opinion. There’s so much happening that it’s almost hard to keep track, but lucky for you, that’s our job, y’all. READ MORE…
Can we just say, shout out to Häagen-Dazs for at least waiting for spring to actually start to host ‘free cone day’ (What’s good, Ben & Jerry’s?). This year, the ice cream co. is urging customers who partake in the free ice cream to go plant wildflowers to help save the honeybees who “support us year-round.” We’re not sure where they expect us to plant wildflowers here in NYC, but they offer up a link to a helpful source. Snag your cone between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. in the meantime. READ MORE…
Even if you’re not a Broadway buff, chances are, you probably listened to this Filipina actress and singer throughout your childhood. In addition to an extensive theater career, Salonga provided the voices for Jasmine in Aladdin and Mulan in… well Mulan. Duh. Tonight, she’s starting a record breaking series of shows at Feinstein’s/54 Below, and we got to chat with her about returning to NYC. READ MORE…
Okay, we’ve given you a weekend and a day. If you haven’t seen Marvel’s latest offering, TOO BAD. Just kidding, just maybe skip this one. With yet another killer soundtrack, this sequel to the 2014 smash hit has it all– manpain, more CGI characters than real characters, critical analysis of “Brandy” by Looking Glass, and seriously, so much manpain. Like kind of too much. But what’s not to love? I’M MARY POPPINS, Y’ALL. READ MORE…
If we had a dollar for every time someone complained about NYC’s batsh*t insane rent prices, uh, well, we definitely wouldn’t have anything to complain about anymore. One of you (and your 3-7 lucky roommates), actually, have the chance to make every New Yorker’s fantasy your reality. We’re teaming up with the cool kids at SpareRoom to hook you up with free rent for one whole damn year. Seriously. And all you gotta do is enter to win. READ MORE…
So it looks like Netflix is going to stick to pretending that the entire season hasn’t already leaked on the internet. Godspeed. TBH, if you’re being a good fan and waiting until it’s officially up on June 9th (WE’RE TRYING SO HARD), this seriously heated trailer is not going to make this one month wait go any faster. Stay strong, fam. READ MORE…
Does your bartender already have your drink poured out for you before you even sit down? Do you actually have someone that comes to mind when we say “your bartender”? You may be suffering from boring-bar-routine syndrome. But don’t worry, friends, we’ve got your cure. We gotchu with our curated list of things to do while getting your drink on– no basic b*tch “paint & wine” nights to see here. READ MORE…

Respected friends,
If President Trump has his way, we will see a 2018 federal budget that will have a devastating impact on working-class communities around the country. Public education, environmental protection and vital social programs will be decimated. Meanwhile, the Pentagon budget will swell by tens of billions of dollars.
But there is an alternative.
Two weeks ago, more than 1,200 People’s Action members stood in front of the White House demanding a “budget for the people” at a rally that was covered by CNN. A dozen of our leaders were arrested calling on Congress to stand with our communities instead of Wall Street, Big Oil, and the billionaire class.
Now, our allies in the Congressional Progressive Caucus have introduced a “People’s Budget” that would invest in our communities. It’s a blueprint for taking our democracy back from the billionaire class and putting it into the hands of everyday people.
The People’s Budget would:
- Make sure that every child has access to quality, affordable education from preschool through college
- Invest in our transportation systems and public facilities
- Support a transition away from fossil fuels and toward good-paying green jobs
- Emphasize restorative justice over incarceration
- Demand the wealthy and corporations to pay their fair share rather than ask those with little to make do with even less
With your citizen co-sponsorship, we can go to members of Congress and demand that they embrace the People’s Budget and fight for the principles that drive it.
The People’s Budget represents the alternative we’re fighting for. Become a citizen co-sponsor today.
Onward,
Isaiah J. Poole
