The news keeps getting more shocking about Donald Trump. On Friday we learned he bragged to the Russian ambassador that he "eased pressure" on himself by firing James Comey.We also learned that Jared Kushner is considered a "significant person of interest" in the special counsel's investigation -- and the White House itself acknowledged Kushner had contact with Russian officials.These revelations suggest Trump, and perhaps his son-in-law Kushner, may be guilty of obstruction of justice.There's one other important piece of information they are hiding: Trump's tax returns.The American people do not know a thing about where Trump gets his money -- or whether he's paid what he owes in taxes.Representative Anna Eshoo has proposed a bill requiring Trump and future presidential candidates to release three years worth of tax returns. This extremely urgent bill is currently stuck in committee, as Speaker Paul Ryan refuses to bring it to the floor for a vote. House Democrats are now trying a new tactic: a discharge petition. If 218 members of Congress sign it, they can force the entire House to vote on the bill. DFA is joining a big progressive coalition to force Congress to act, and we're 85% of the way there. Just this week, the first Republican added their name to the discharge petition.Releasing Trump's tax returns can help Congress investigate and impeach Trump. This is very urgent. Sign the petition: tell Congress to support the discharge petition that would force Trump to release his taxes now! It's clear Donald Trump has something to hide. Do his tax returns show that he received payments from the Russian government (or businesses and banks they control)? Do they show that he's been evading taxes? Do they show that he would benefit personally from the tax cuts he's proposed? Donald Trump's tax plan could shave millions of dollars from his tax bill while raising taxes on families with children. Without his tax returns, we have no way to know just how much he will personally benefit. Republicans aren't working for their constituents right now -- they're working to protect Trump. Their desperate attempts to help Donald Trump are eroding all sense of transparency and accountability in our government.They're helping Trump cover something up -- something big. The American people deserve to know what it is. Congress needs to show that they work for us. Signing the discharge petition and bringing this bill to the floor -- and passing it -- is one important thing they can do to further the investigation into Trump. It can even help build the case for his impeachment. Sign the petition: Tell your Congressmen to stop protecting Donald Trump and add their name to the discharge petition. Force a vote on the bill requiring Trump and all presidential candidates to release their tax returns.
