Havana to Trinidad: Culture, the Environment, and Sports
October 7–14, 2017
It’s a time of change in Cuba! Join us for an exciting new Nation tour that explores the world of culture, the environment, and sports in Cuba. Along the way we will experience the people, politics, music, art, and history of this vibrant Caribbean nation during a unique period in the country’s history.
Travel with The Nation’s sports editor, Dave Zirin, as we journey from Havana, the cultural heart of Cuba, to the charming colonial town of Trinidad. We’ll learn about environmental challenges the country is facing during a visit to Fundación Antonio Jiménez, a leading environmental think tank; visit Ernest Hemingway’s Cuban home, Finca Vigía; search for rare bird species and other wildlife in a UNESCO biosphere reserve; immerse ourselves in the beauty of Old Havana; and wander the cobblestone streets of Trinidad, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with a local restoration expert. Baseball plays an important role in the country’s culture, and we’ll gain further insight into this aspect of Cuban life as we attend a baseball game at the Estadio Latinoamericano, or “El Latino,” to see Havana’s Industriales team—considered to be the “Yankees of Cuba”—as well as a little-league game. There will also be many opportunities to listen to wonderful Cuban music and attend cultural performances throughout the tour. These are only some of the highlights of this fantastic new tour—see the full itinerary for the complete program!
The all-inclusive cost of this program is $5,770 per person with double occupancy ($200 single supplement) plus $430 airfare to/from Florida. This includes accommodations for four nights in Havana and three nights in Trinidad, most meals, a private air-conditioned bus for excursions, a bilingual local guide, entrance to all activities detailed in itinerary, and more.
