URGENT: Your Senators are going back to Washington in just a few days to confirm Sam Clovis  -- an anti-science talk radio host -- to a key USDA science job.
We’ll be waiting for them with more than 250,000 petition signatures demanding they reject Clovis. But Stjepan, I checked our records and it looks like we still don’t have your signature.
See the message below for more information.
***************************
Respected friends
,
Tell your Senators: Stop a racist climate denier from becoming the USDA's top scientist!
Your Senators are home for August recess. This is when they want to hear from constituents like you.

But as soon as they go back to Washington, DC, they’re hoping to confirm Sam Clovis -- a racist, homophobic, anti-science radio talk show host -- to be the USDA’s Chief Scientist.

Momentum is building to stop Clovis from being confirmed. Senate Minority Leader Schumer and Senator Schatz stated that they will oppose his nomination. This is a critical moment to put more pressure on the Senate to reject Clovis!

Tell your Senators to reject Clovis to lead the USDA’s science program!
Sam Clovis is blatantly unqualified for the top scientist job at the USDA. He’s a political operative, not a scientist. He previously worked as a Trump campaign adviser and conservative radio talk show host.

But now, Trump wants to put him in charge of a $3 billion budget for our nation’s food and agriculture. It’s clear that Trump wants to give him this job because Clovis supports Trump’s racist, anti-science and pro-industry policies.
Clovis has said climate science is “junk science.” He also has a history of racist rants, including calling progressives “race traders and race traitors." And he’s vocally against fair wages for working people. This week it was also revealed that Clovis is vehemently against civil rights protections for the LGBT community.

This is someone who shouldn’t be in any sort of leadership position -- let alone running key federal programs to protect our food system!

Stop Sam Clovis from becoming the USDA's chief scientist -- sign the petition today!
The Senate has every reason to reject Clovis. In fact, his nomination violates the law.

The 2008 Farm Bill requires that the nominee for this job be a credentialed scientist. Past undersecretaries have been biochemists, plant physiologists and nutritionists.

But we’ve seen time and time again that the Senate is willing to give Trump whatever he wants -- unless constituents like you demand otherwise. Now, when Congress is home in their districts, is the ideal time to speak up.

Stop Trump’s attacks on science! Tell the Senate to reject Sam Clovis as the USDA’s top scientist.
Standing with you,
Dr. Kendra Klein, Staff scientist,
