"Whom the gods wish to destroy they first call promising."
–Cyril Connolly
So what IS that one thing? Distracting success. That’s right.

These are the 'successes' found early in your career, society, culture, life... wherever, that keep you from following your personal mission.

They will land at your doorstep right at the moment when you’re poised for real freedom or “success.”

A good friend and I were talking the other day, and he’s getting ready to make a big life change. He’s in a position where he’s facing an enormous opportunity and personal freedom. And sure enough, like clockwork, he was offered a king’s ransom to stay put where he’s at. Based on our conversation, I’m confident he’ll choose freedom and his own path. We live in a strange culture that will try to buy you off the moment you become dangerous to it’s values.

News that matters

A new report from the UK shows that loneliness is more harmful than smoking 15 cigarettes a day or being obese. And the resulting damages are costing the UK health system over 13 billion dollars per year. -Link
Yikes: "Bacterial cells treated with a common antibiotic have been spotted changing shape to survive while aboard the International Space Station (ISS).” We might want to start upping our bio game. -Link

What we're listening to

"I’m holding onto you
My soul is fading
I’m falling into blue
Why don’t you save me?
My blood is running cold
So lift me up and give me higher ground"

What we're watching

The Circle
This started as a book by Dave Eggars, the book was optioned to become a movie with top tier actors (Emma Watson and Tom Hanks). Dave Eggars brings up amazing points, but for someone so close to the tech companies, he (and the screenwriter and movie producer) don’t develop the premise. The ideas here are worth knowing about and exploring, but don’t look here for answers.

What we're reading

Enemies of Promise by Cyril Vernon Connolly (10 September 1903 – 26 November 1974) was an English literary critic and writer. He was the editor of the influential literary magazine Horizon (1940–49) and wrote Enemies of Promise (1938), which combined literary criticism with an autobiographical exploration of why he failed to become the successful author of fiction that he had aspired to be in his youth. -Wikipedia

Why we’re reading it (and his work)

Inspiration that inspires you to action isn’t always waiting behind the next motivational article. It’s not always going to come from a kind word from a role model. The place to seek real, lasting inspiration is from anti-models. These are the people who failed to achieve what you aspire to do. They are the people that make you cringe because they’re actions don’t match their words. Anti-models are the people who think or worry more about the words someone says more than what they actually do (or what they’ve done). Reflecting on the life and reflections of Cyril Connolly (or any other anti-model you can find) is THE most inspiring thing you might do this week. If Cyril isn’t your cup of tea, his story will map perfectly to find an anti-model to study under in your own life. It’s easy to think that those who “win” early win or progress over the long term, but this is rarely the case.

EPI News—Our most important stories this week

One-third of Native American and African American children are (still) in poverty

There was a modest decline in the child poverty rate in 2016—from 19.7 percent to 18.0 percent—according to new data from the Census Bureau. This is welcome news, but it doesn’t tell the whole story. In a new Economic Snapshot, EPI’s Janelle Jones points out that the big-picture numbers mask stark and persistent differences in poverty rates by race. With poverty rates of 33.8 percent and 30.8 percent, respectively, Native American children and African American children are roughly three times more likely to be in poverty than white children (at 10.8 percent). The poverty rate for Hispanic children is also relatively high, at 26.6 percent. Read the snapshot »

EPI’s Valerie Wilson speaks at the CBCF Annual Legislative Conference

On Thursday, EPI’s Valerie Wilson spoke at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s 47th Annual Legislative Conference. She joined Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) and other scholars and community leaders for a discussion called “Recentering the Experiences of Black Women to Achieve Economic Justice.” The panel focused on how black women are too often left out of conversations about economic inequality. As Rep. Ellison said, “When we talk about racial injustice, so often it’s the black men we end up talking about. When we talk about gender injustice, so often it’s the white women we end up talking about.” And yet, as the panelists discussed, the economic experiences of black women have significant social and political implications for our country. Watch a video of the panel »

The Fed’s decision not to raise rates shows they are listening to the data

After three increases since December 2016, the Federal Reserve announced on Wednesday that it is holding interest rates steady for now. This is good news for working people who hope to get raises. In a statement, EPI’s Josh Bivens applauded the Fed’s decision to hold rates, noting that the Fed should only raise rates when inflation threatens to rise well above their stated inflation target. “Hopefully today’s decision marks a return to firmly evidence-based policymaking by the Fed,” said Bivens.

From the EPI blog

EPI in the news

The Editorial Board of The New York Times cited EPI research on the black–white wage gap, writing that, according to EPI’s research, “pay gaps between white and black workers have grown since 1979, even after controlling for education, experience and location.” | Even College Doesn’t Bridge the Racial Income Gap »
The Boston Globe cited EPI research on the minimum wage, noting that if Massachusetts were to raise its minimum wage to $15 by 2021, over one million workers—roughly a third of the state’s workers—would benefit. | Supporters of Higher Minimum Wage Urge Lawmakers to Enact Hike »
EPI’s Lawrence Mishel spoke to The New Yorker about the Census Bureau’s recent data on poverty and income, which saw gains in median household income for a second year in a row. “It is quite impressive, the income growth of the last two years,” said Mishel. “It points to the need to operate at very low levels of unemployment.”| Maintaining Full Employment Is the Key to Raising Wages »
The Washington Post interviewed EPI’s David Cooper about D.C. lawmakers’ plans to “take a break” from working to strengthen the city’s labor standards. “It would be unusual,” said Cooper, “for D.C., among its peer group of fairly progressive cities, to come out and say they are going to ignore worker standards for the foreseeable future.” | Fearing Revolt from Businesses, D.C. to Shift Focus Away from Worker Protections »

When Warren Buffett says it is time to get out, you get out!

Here's where the smart money is going and how you could double your investment in the next 30-60 days

I have been a little hyper about this for a few months…

When we first talked about it, you may have thought I was being over-cautious, but now even Warren Buffett is seeing the handwriting on the wall.

And when Warren Buffett says something, you had better pay attention.

See why I believe the smart money will shift more into currency trading - and how you could ride that move to the biggest paydays of your life, here.

Let me give you the shorthand version…

When the valuation of any financial market is more than 80% of the size of the economy, you can consider it a "safe" investment according to Buffett…

As of now, the stock market has pushed past that 80% threshold, and is now hovering around 136%...

And is at the biggest peak since the last big ones of 1929 and 1987… Here's what I'm talking about:

Click display images to see chart

Notice from that image: it took 2+ years for the market to fall off the cliff. Here's how you could make millions when it heads south.

Knowing that we are due for a correction in the markets every 7-10 years and our last major correction was 2008…

It does not take a rocket scientist to realize that the crash is coming, and sooner rather than later.

So Buffett is shifting assets. As of now, his company has shifted over $100 billion out of traditional investments and into liquid currency.

Think a guy with $100 billion in cash might know more about making money than most people?

I do, and that is why I have been screaming at everyone I know to put at least part of their portfolio into currencies…

Because the beauty of the currency market (Forex), is that no matter what happens, one currency will fluctuate against another…

It doesn't matter if the market is sky high, or crashing on the rocks… In Forex we trade those fluctuations to make a lot of cash.

Complete trading statements, all independently verified, are right here.

The method this trader, and the few hundred others he selected to have this secret, are using to make these insane earnings…

✔ Only takes between 27 and 5 minutes a day to trade

✔ Requires no complicated math or theory

✔ Can make nearly anyone cash no matter what the market is doing

✔ Has the world's only built-in "done for you" Trade Assistant that does everything from scan the market for the perfect trade to setting the optimal entry and exit from any trade…

✔ It can even correct you if you try to make a mistake!

✔ And could double your cash in as little as three days

See how it allows you to virtually create the perfect trading conditions out of "thin air" to make five figures a month, here.

Look, when the market tumble begins, the smart money will trade currencies because Forex traders make the most money in the most volatile conditions…

The U.S. dollar has already slid to a 3-year low…

China's currency is under siege…

And the world could be headed for another war…

Trading conditions simply do not get more volatile, or more perfect for taking a fortune from the biggest cash market in the world…

And you are still sitting there twiddling your thumbs?

Sit up and make something happen because someone is going to get rich, and I think it should be you.

Here's where you start.

To your trading success,

Adrian Jones
"Next Generation Trading"

P.S. One of the most impressive parts of this cash juggernaut is that the guy who created it, Vladimir Ribakov, is giving you a full year of his LIVE TRADING ROOM and daily & weekly trading reports as a completely free bonus…

So you can be a fly on the wall, watching this master-trader and one of the most respected names in Forex trade his own accounts for the kind of cash most people only dream of…

Like $647.98 on day 1

Like $475.00 on day 1

Like a $37,982.01 profit in a month…

And he'll show you exactly how to do it just like he does, with his new system and a few closely guarded secrets…
