Lunch Lady 2.0

As the daughter of a cookbook editor, Amelia Ekus grew up setting the dinner table for the likes of Emeril Lagasse and Julia Child—so no wonder her first job out of school was as floor manager for New York restaurant L'Artusi. Though Ekus now works as general manager for Twitter's corporate café in NYC, she insists it's not so different from restaurant life: "[Twitter] really values service and quality on the same level of restaurants." Each week, she coordinates a menu of 27 rotating lunch options, which she tweets from the handle @twEATS to lure reluctant workers into the office. Another incentive? The speakeasy-style coffee shop, where she makes sure to offer seasonal favorites like a pumpkin spice latte made with candied pumpkin syrup. MEET AMELIA [Eater]

Where have Venezuela's arepas gone?

We've been devouring arepas this summer like crazy. But while each Venezuelan used to eat approximately 750 of these griddled cornmeal cakes per year, the country's political and agricultural crisis has cut that number in half. In the past year alone roughly 150,000 Venezuelans have left the country—and brought their taste for arepas with them. We might be lining up for arepas filled with jamon iberico or stuffed with Asian-marinated pork belly, but in Caracas they're waiting to get their price-controlled bag of cornmeal for a chance to indulge in what was once a staple. READ MORE [NPR]

Fire up the stove for this fiery pasta sauce

Ever since we had our first taste of 'nduja (en-doo-ya), that splendidly spicy, spreadable pork sausage from Calabria, we've been searching for ways to eat more of it. When we saw this recipe from Nigel Slater we couldn't believe we didn't think of it first. With just pasta, tomatoes, a drizzle of olive oil, plus some cornichons and/or capers if you like, this speedy dish comes together in minutes, making it perfect for those hectic nights when we can't be bothered to cook, but still want something delicious. GET THE RECIPE [The Guardian]
