EPI News—Our most important stories this week

How today’s unions help working people

In a new report, EPI researchers provide updated statistics on who today’s unions represent and demonstrate that collective bargaining plays an essential role in today’s labor market and our democracy. Labor unions are more diverse than ever before; about two-thirds of union workers age 18 to 64 are women or people of color, and union members include dental hygienists, graduate students, and digital journalists, as well as manufacturing workers and public-sector employees. Working people in unions use their power in numbers to secure a fairer share of the income they create, which raises working people’s wages and reduces inequality. But workers’ freedom to join together and bargain with their employers is under attack. Read the report »

EPI expert calls on Federal Reserve to help workers and prepare for the next recession

Last week, EPI’s Josh Bivens and members of the Fed Up campaign went to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, to ask Federal Reserve governors meeting there to raise the Fed’s inflation target above 2 percent. Bivens sat on a panel with former director of the National Economic Council Gene Sperling and other economists who back raising the inflation target to help workers by increasing demand for labor and giving the central bank more tools to fight another recession. Fed Up also held a press conference to urge that President Trump reappoint Janet Yellen as Fed chief. According to a recent report by EPI and Fed Up, Yellen and the Fed did more than any other policymaking institution to engineer a recovery from the Great Recession and have stayed focused on boosting economic growth and improving the labor market.

Renegotiating NAFTA is putting lipstick on a pig

The first round of the Trump administration’s NAFTA renegotiations wrapped last week, without the United States proposing any specific measures on important issues such as labor rights, currency manipulation, or rules of origin (rules that establish minimum levels of North American content for goods to receive duty-free access to North American markets). As a result, these negotiations are more likely to hurt than help most working Americans, writesEPI’s Robert Scott. Scott suggests that, rather than tinkering around the edges of NAFTA, the United States should begin a campaign to realign the U.S. dollar and rebalance global trade.

From the EPI blog

EPI in the news

MarketWatch interviewed EPI President Lawrence Mishel about EPI’s recent report on unions, which examines the importance of collective bargaining for workers in the U.S. economy. “The erosion of unions has been especially damaging for the growth of middle-class wages,” said Mishel. “If you want to boost wage for the middle you have to rebuild the collective bargaining.”  | One Theory Why Income Inequality Has Grown in America »
EPI’s Robert Scott spoke with Vox on the risks of President Trump’s use of Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974 to investigate China of trade violations. The proposed investigation seeks to make it easier for American corporations to expand overseas, which could involve firing U.S. workers and hiring foreign workers. “Trump campaigned on the negative impacts of trade and trade deals like NAFTA on working Americans, but here instead he is intervening not to help working people but to help American investors and American multinational companies,” said Scott. | Trump's New Attack on the Chinese Economy, Explained »
Bloomberg quoted EPI’s Heidi Shierholz on why younger women have experienced growing pay inequality. “Men just had been losing ground, and instead are doing better now,” which means that male wage losses are not doing as much to drive growing parity, Shierholz explained. | Young Women Are Losing Ground in U.S. Race for Equal Pay »
Washington Post piece reviewing President Trump’s promise that wages will soon rise cited EPI data confirming the scarcity of jobs with good wages: “Forty percent of jobs in the country pay less than $15.50, according to the left-leaning Economic Policy Institute.” | Half the jobs in America pay less than $18 an hour. Can Trump help? »
In a story about the lasting effects of redlining, The New York Times cited The Color of Law, a book by EPI’s Richard Rothstein, which argues that redlining fostered segregation in America.  | How Redlining’s Racist Effects Lasted for Decades »
In a story about the real-world implications of white supremacy, Michael Harriot of The Root cited EPI data on the economic disadvantages black workers face: “A black person is far less likely to find a job than a white person with the same education and experience, according to the Economic Policy Institute. Let that sink in. Even with the same qualifications, a white person is deemed `more qualified’ or more employable than a black person.” | 3 Facts That Prove the Reality of White Supremacy »

I'm going to tell you how to make
some money in the next 5 minutes
but you have to do it right now.

Good For 24 Hours Only

I am really super excited today because I have fantastic news to share with you, and I will tell you about in a minute, but first I want to tell you a quick story.

Click display images to see chartAndrew Carnegie wasAmerica's first billionaire. Not only was he America's first billionaire, he was one of the richest men who ever lived.

The story of how he rose from his humble beginnings in Scotland as a bobbin boy, changing spools of thread in a cotton mill 12 hours a day, 6 days a week, to one of the most powerful men who ever live is would probably fascinate you, but that's not why I am talking about him.

He did two things that really set him apart that helped millions of people. The first was that gave most of his money away and built thousands of libraries around the world.

The second thing he did that was so ahead of his time was to approach a writer called Napoleon Hill and challenged him to interview wealthy people to discover a simple formula for success. He then arranged interviews with some of the most powerful and wealthy men of that time.

The book he wrote was Think And Grow Richand is one of the bestselling business books of all time.

It's the idea that Carnegie intuitively knew that success could be taught if you had the teacher and a way of passing that information on.

That's Why I'm Am So Excited

Fast forward over one hundred years and his concept of the laws of success have been passed on to people like Vladimir Ribakov, who has helped thousands of ordinary people become profitable and full-time traders. You can watch a video about him here.

Claim Vlad's Gift Of Money

This is why this email is super important. For the next 24 hours only a video will play that has vital information on how you could make a lot of money trading Forex.

The video will explain in great detail a way ordinary people, even if they have never traded before, make $500, $750 or even $1,000 per day with a proven method of trading that tells you when it's time to collect money from the market.
Click display images to see chart

You can watch that video here for the next 24 hours only.

But that's not all…

If you go there right now and watch the video it will be worth $6,103 to you. Seriously, it's that valuable but it's only there for the next 24 hours.Watch how to get that $6,103.00 here.

Last thing…

You also only have 24 hours to collect the two system he gave away as a gift.

Click display images to see chart

This video is important. Go watch it now.

Regards,

Adrian Jones
"Next Generation Trading"

P.S. I'm not saying you are going to make as much as Andrew Carnegie, but I am saying that if you watch the video, you will learn how you could become rich. Watch it here.
