Start Building Your Platform
The Ultimate Career Asset and Most Durable Form of Power

In 1931, Winston Churchill found himself more or less exiled from political life. In the previous years he had found himself vehemently fighting members of his own party over a number of issues and when a new government was formed, Churchill was not invited. He was viewed as out of date and out of touch by his fellow politicians and so began period now known as his “wilderness years.”
An ordinary politician would have been powerless when voted out of office or driven to the fringes by political enemies. Not Churchill. Because he held onto something even more valuable than office — he had a platform.
Most people are unaware that Churchill made his living as a writer, publishing some ten million words in his lifetime in hundreds of publications and published works. In fact, it was his enormous worldwide readership that Churchill cultivated through books, newspaper columns, and radio appearances that allowed him to survive the periods in which he did not have the ability to directly shape policy. Instead, he was able to reach directly to the people about the rising threat of world war, not just in Britain but worldwide, including in America. During his infamous time in the so-called political wilderness between 1931 and 1939, Churchill published 11 volumes and more than 400 articles, and delivered more than 350 speeches. His enormous platform — based on his editorial contacts, his extraordinary gift with words, and his relentless energy — allowed him not only to be relevant but also to guide policy and opinion across the globe until he was eventually brought back in to save Britain and eventually and in many ways, the world.
For any kind of leader, creator or entrepreneur, this kind of platform is essential. Because it is the ultimate insurance policy and the most durable form of influence and power.

We spend a lot of time complaining about the subway, but do we actually ever think about the types of resources the city needs to make major changes?
Not so much.
In reality, there is a lot that needs to be done to make all the necessary changes to our Subways.
For example, Mayor de Blasio has proposed that the richest NYers pay for all the repairs.
How do you think that will work? Hmm…

It’s called Delayed, and you need to check it out, because let’s be honest; commuting isn’t getting any better anytime soon.

Facebook declares war on children, blocks all independent science warning of medical harm
Mike Adams

FRIENDS,

Fashion is a powerful form of self-expression that brings joy to many, but it can also take a huge toll on the environment. In fact, the apparel industry is one of the biggest polluters in the world.

But things are changing. In recent years, we've seen brands step up to the plate and commit to reducing their environmental footprint. And we've seen a wave of consumers looking to make a difference with their dollars and buy clothes that not only look good, but are good for their bodies and the planet. It's been truly inspiring to watch.

That's why we're so proud to announce that NRDC and Marie Claire are joining forces this month to protect our planet in honor of the release of the magazine's first sustainability issue.

Learn more about Marie Claire's new sustainability issue by watching the video below.

Sustainable fashion is also deeply important to NRDC. NRDC's Clean by Design initiative helps major apparel retailers and brands clean up factories, cut their energy and water use, reduce pollution and transition to sustainable and safe materials.

Please consider making a donation through CrowdRise to help NRDC defend our environment on all fronts and protect clean air, clean water and the health of future generations.

Thank you for supporting NRDC and Marie Claire's work to fashion a better future for the planet.

Sincerely,

Rhea

Help save our water from Trump and Big Oil: Donate $27 or more to Friends of the Earth Action today!

Donald Trump is threatening the drinking water of 117 million -- or one in three -- Americans.
Trump and EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt are trying to roll back the Clean Water Rule. This rule protects small streams that feed our drinking water sources. It enables wildlife to flourish in our wetlands across the nation. These are common-sense safeguards for our water.
At Friends of the Earth Action, we’re working to stop Big Polluters from destroying our waterways. But we need your help!Donate $27 or more and stop the EPA from gutting our drinking water protections!
If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:
The Clean Water Rule protects 20 million acres of wetlands, along with half the stream miles in the U.S. It helps ensure that our waterways can filter pollution and support communities and wildlife.
Ever since it was finalized by the Obama administration in 2015, Big Polluters have been trying to undo this rule. After all, the rule makes it harder for oil companies and others to dump dangerous pollutants into our waterways. Now, Trump and Pruitt are trying to give polluters what they want. But Trump and Pruitt can’t just undo these rules overnight. They are required by law to consider public input from the millions of Americans who want clean water. So at Friends of the Earth Action, we’re mobilizing people across the country to speak up to protect our water. Just yesterday, more than 30,000 Friends of the Earth Action members like you sent in comments to the EPA. But we need your help to keep this work going.Don’t let polluters destroy our drinking water, streams and wetlands! Give $27 or more to Friends of the Earth Action!
If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:
Trump wants to eliminate as many of our environmental protections as he can -- and starve the EPA to make it all but impossible for the agency to enforce the rules he can’t get rid of. The result? Big Polluters could destroy our planet with reckless abandon. This is a clear attempt to remake the entire EPA, and not for the better. So far, Trump is failing. Just last week, his administration announced that they would back off its attempts to delay an important smog regulation. Meanwhile, many of his regulatory attacks on our climate are tied up in court, and the Senate rejected his proposal to cut the EPA’s budget by 30%.This shows that together, we can protect our planet from Donald Trump. Now, we need your help to keep this momentum going!Help save our water from Trump and his Big Oil cronies -- donate $27 or more today!
