The Trump Administration just announced that it intends to strip protections for Bears Ears National Monument and others. This decision means Bears Ears will be threatened with oil and gas drilling and mining. We can still keep Big Oil out of Bears Ears -- but we need your help!Donate $27 or more to Friends of the Earth Action and keep Big Oil out of Bears Ears!

This spring, Donald Trump signed an Executive Order that forced a review of parks and public lands that have been protected since 1996. It puts more than one billion acres of wild places at risk.
After Friends of the Earth Action members like you sent in more than 300,000 comments, the Administration backed off and took some public lands off the table. You prevented Trump from handing over Colorado’s Canyons of the Ancients, Idaho’s Craters of the Moon, and Washington’s Hanford Reach.
Trump’s Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke decided that Bears Ears and other public lands aren’t worth protecting for future generations. He recommended drastically shrinking these national treasures. This is an attack by Secretary Zinke on Native American Heritage and our environment.
Zinke’s rollback of protections for Bears Ears is likely illegal. So at Friends of the Earth Action, we’re not going to let him get away with it.
Stop Ryan Zinke from giving Bears Ears to Big Oil: Donate $27 or more!

Trump’s vision for our environment is clear. He thinks our public lands are first and foremost meant to be exploited for the benefit of his Big Oil friends.
Friends of the Earth Action has been leading the fight to keep fossil fuels in the ground on our public lands for years now. With your support, we helped build a nationwide movement to preserve these places for future generations.
We can’t let Trump hand over these places to the fossil fuel industry. We need your help to fight back!
Donate $27 or more and stop Trump from gutting our public lands!

Hurricane Harvey is barreling towards Texas, and the Lone Star state could see two feet of rain this weekend. A fast-approaching, potentially catastrophic storm threatening thousands of people usually warrants some kind of comment from the President of the United States, but not Donald Trump! He’s too busy retweeting bigoted conspiracy theorists.
Recent polls find that more Americans think Donald Trump should be impeached than approve of his job performance. Even some lawmakers have floated the idea of impeachment. But longtime Trump advisor Roger Stone promised that any attempt to impeach Trump would result in a violent uprising.

Energy Secretary Rick Perry’s highly anticipated Energy Department study is finally out. Earlier this summer, a draft of that report surfaced which revealed the exact opposite of what Perry had been hoping to find. This time, he instructed his staff to rewrite the report in order to smear renewable energy…and still managed to fail.

A new study has found that for the last 40 years, ExxonMobil executives have been saying one thing to the public about climate change, and something very, very different privately.

We're so close, yet so far from the weekend– have you got your plansready? 💁
#TIL the #Hashtag turned 10 years old yesterday. Pour one out for the pound key. 😭
NYC might finally be acknowledging that nightlife is basically our biggest industry ($10 billion ain't a joke), and is set to establish an Office of Nightlife. 🍻
The somewhat Harry Potter-themed pasta restaurant recently opened in Brooklyn is now expanding to Manhattan! ✨
Our ole' buddy Chris Columbus' monument is under review as a symbol of hate, and the reactions are... let's just say "mixed." 😵
There's a mermaid frappuccino at Starbucks... but ONLY IN MEXICO?! BRB, drowning our sorrows in these rosé pouches. 🙌
Even the least picky of eaters has the food they cannot stand, and apparently, that varies by state. 😖

To Stay or Not to Stay?
Christopher Columbus' Statue in Columbus Circle Is Under Review for Removal

If you’ve been to Central Park in the past 200 years, you’ve probably noticed the Christopher Columbus statue on the southwest corner of the park.
You know, in ~Columbus~ Circle.
Several NYC politicians are debating the removal of the statue, including City Council Melissa Mark-Viverito, who named him a “controversial figure” responsible for the disenfranchisement of indigenous populations.
Well, she ain't wrong.
Others are in protest (of the protest) and deem the piece a pivotal emblem of Italian-American culture that should stay.
Will Chris remain? That’s up to Mayor de Blasio to decide. Stay tuned.

The Night Mayor Cometh
NYC Might Finally Establish an Office of Nightlife, Complete With A "Night Mayor"

You know all about The Night King from Game of Thrones, but what about a real-life Night Mayor of NYC?
That’s right, today, a new bill is set to pass that would allow Mayor de Blasio to appoint a Director of Nightlife to monitor New York’s bustling night scene.
Cool, right? We know. What’s more?
If elected, this 'Night Mayor' will work to combat rising rent prices, poor community planning, and even propose to eliminate the hated Cabaret Law.
Now that’s a Night King/Man/Mayor we can totally stand behind.

Just When You Thought It Was Over, Starbucks Unveils a ‘Mermaid Frappuccino’

We know your tummy still aches from the Unicorn Frap in April, but the imaginative folks at Starbucks are up to it again.
Starbucks Mexico uncovered another mythical creature from the depths of their minds today: The Elusive Mermaid.
Melon-based and topped with blue whipped cream and pink sparkles, this curious beverage is only available in Mexico’s 600 locations.
Are we bummed? Of course. We really needed that perfect Insta moment.

This Questionably Harry Potter-Inspired Pasta Restaurant is Confusing Us In a Good Way

We all know Harry Potter is life.
But where does organic pasta fit into the wizarding world?
All aboard the Pasta Wiz Express, as they open a second and slightly confusing new location in Greenwich Village.
They haven’t gone full-out Potter up in there (because copyrights are a thing), but we’ll at least raise a butterbeer to your attempts to serve us Fettucine in under five minutes.
Now that’s what we call magic.

The Hashtag Is 10 Years Old. Here Are 3 Surprising Ways It's Changed Modern Culture.

In case you weren’t feeling old enough lately, the hashtag just turned 10 years old yesterday.
It was first used by Twitter user and web developer Chris Messina, and has since been used in a variety of ways by activists, celebrities, and everyday shlumps like us nearly 125 million times per day.
Woahhhh #blessed.
The rise of the hashtag has evolved into a spread of culture across continents, often bringing together voices and allowing many groups to be heard in an ever-growing technological age (#BlackLivesMatter, for example).
Happy Birthday #Hashtag10!

These Rosé Pouches Are Every Basic '90s Girl's Dream

Hold onto your butts, rosé in a pouch is here and we honestly can’t even believe we’ve survived this long without it.
Our sense of self is completely revitalized now with these cutesy wine pouches courtesy of Electric Rose Wine Co.
Take them to the beach, a concert, shoot, bring them to your kid’s soccer game, we can’t judge.

Haters to the Left
Do You Hate The Same Food Your State Hates?

“OMG, I hate that,” you sneer at a tuna salad or Keurig K-Cup.
Turns out you might not be alone.
This month, we’ve turned up some oddly specific geographical hatred for all things food via Hater, a dating app that matches people based on mutual hatred.
Colorado hates Flaming Hot Cheetos, Missouri despises the last bite of a hot dog, California is anti-Chick-Fil-A.
And New York? Ranch on pizza. We didn't know that was so polarizing, TBH.

Green tea to release your inner rapper
The next time you wince at spending $5 on a matcha latte, consider this: your purchase is now Drake-approved. Everyone's favorite rapper recently invested in MatchaBar, the first brand of bottled ceremonial grade matcha to be sold at Whole Foods. In an age where the celebrity-endorsed wellness products have replaced celebrity-endorsed sodas, we applaud Drake's savvy move. His 430-week streak in Billboard's Top 100 songs may be over, but his foodie-business game is still strong (remember when he sang about closing out NYC's Carbone?). While they don't promise that a bottle will give you the energy to do 100 burpees in one go, we're suckers for anything that brings us closer to Drake. MEET DRAKE[Well+Good]
Chefs, they're just like us!
Just like you, Alinea chef Grant Achatz has avocado toast or a bagel for breakfast. But not all top chefs stock their fridges with such familiar options. Peek inside Publican chef Cosmo Gross's clear doored fridge ("It's like MTV Cribs") and you'll find Soylent coffee, while Stephanie Izard of Girl & the Goat has a tub of strained fryer oil left over from making Taiwanese fried chicken. Want more chef-approved tips for a well-stocked fridge? Check out Adrian Moore's book Inside Chefs' Fridges (which we shouted out in 2015)—turns out the fridge voyeursim is here to stay. SNEAK A PEEK [Chicago Mag]
What's in a name when dessert tastes this good?
Fior di latte, flan, panna cotta—we're suckers for the milk-flavored treat on the menu. Get your fix at home when you whip up gelatina de leche, which literally means "milk gelatin." It's firmer than panna cotta and creamier than jello, but making this no-bake delight hardly requires more than dumping all the ingredients in a pot, then leaving it to cool and chill. Sure, you could go all fancy and top it with berries, but it's equally as good plain—as are all things sweet 'n' simple. GET THE RECIPE [Chicano Eats]
A small secret to decode that colored twist tie on your supermarket bread.
