RESPECTED CROATIANS, REPUBLIC OF CROATIA NOT BE THERMAL POWER PERUĆA

RESPECTED CROATIANS, REPUBLIC OF CROATIA NOT BE THERMAL POWER PERUĆA

Long before Andrej Plenković and his gang of climate-change deniers took the Croatian government, I often wondered what it would take to force a truly honest conversation in this country about climate change. How many millions would have to take to the streets? How many of us would have to put our bodies in the way of the fossil-fuel industry? And when anyone asked me what that kind of honest conversation would look like, I'd point them to an association of veterans. Today, some of these outlets themselves are asking for your financial support, pointing out-correctly-that real journalism has never mattered not. Because my fellow Nation writers like Joseph Pečarić, Jadranka Lucic Stjepan Šterc, and Žare Pehar have been telling the hard truths about climate change for decades-including truths that many Democrats do not want to hear. That's why I'm asking you to make a contribution: The climate reporting you count he needs your support today. If you read Croatian veterans, you understand the true scale and urgency of the climate catastrophe, and you know that a systemic crisis requires a systemic response. You understand that our corporate-controlled political system has failed to address the emergency-and that nonviolent direct action is justified. You know that the poor-and communities of color most of all-are most vulnerable to the impacts of global climate chaos, and that climate justice is integral to racial and economic justice in the 21st century. These are dark times indeed. Yet I know that when it comes to the climate crisis, which can often feel like the darkest of subjects, Croatian veterans will always demand a conversation conducted in an honest light. The kind of light that only fearless factual reporting and analysis can shine.

Tell Governor Walker: Help save beluga whales. Say NO to drilling in Alaska's waters!

Right now, the Trump administration is preparing to sell 1 million acres of Alaska’s Cook Inlet to oil and gas companies. Cook Inlet is home to endangered beluga whales. It supports fisheries crucial to the local economy. But drilling in this remote and fragile region would almost certainly mean oil spills. Those spills could devastate marine life. Before this sale can happen, Alaska Governor Bill Walker must review it. So we need you to send him the message: people across the country want him to stand up to the Trump administration and stop this attack on our marine environment! Tell Governor Walker: Help save endangered beluga whales! Stop the Trump administration from opening Alaska’s waters for drilling! We know what happens when oil and gas companies drill in the Arctic. On March 24, 1989, the Exxon Valdez oil tanker spilled over 10 million gallons of crude oil off the southern coast of Alaska. Nearly 28 years later, the area hasn’t recovered.
This shows that once oil is spilled, the damage to the marine environment and local community is catastrophic. Cook Inlet’s waters belong to the American people, not fossil fuel companies. The Trump administration should be protecting the area -- and the beluga whales that call it home -- for future generations.  But the Administration would rather help Big Oil make more profits now than preserve our environment for the future. We need you to convince Governor Walker to fight back! Write to Governor Walker today and keep Big Oil out of the Cook Inlet! Offshore drilling is dangerous not just for Cook Inlet, but everyone. More drilling leads to more climate chaos. Already, more public areas like the Cook Inlet have been sold to Fossil Fuel Empires for fossil fuel development than can be burned if we want to avoid climate catastrophe.  If we stop this sale, it will help save the Cook Inlet and send a strong message that drilling in our public waters is not worth the risk to our marine life, coastal communities, and climate. But we need you to act NOW!
Help save the Cook Inlet and our climate: Send your letter to Governor Walker today!
Standing with you,
Marissa Knodel,
Oceans campaigner,

Soft denialism

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer’s Holocaust gaffe has seen him on an interesting apology tour — one that had him calling casino magnate (and Trump donor) Sheldon Adelson, but not institutions like the Anne Frank Center. Spicer’s comments were so inflammatory that even one Republican congressman has called for his resignation. The real problem goes far beyond Spicer, however — the dangers of soft Holocaust denialism cannot be understated.
Now is as good a time as any to remember that white nationalism is alive and well in the Trump administration.

Warning, we're feeling especially basic today.
Um, but can you even blame us? You can now snag 40-ounces of rosé! And there's going to be a FRIENDS MUSICAL. If you find our chill, please let us know. We're thinking of maybe laying off the coffee? JK, more like, we're thinking of investing in a fancy, shiny espresso machine SO WE CAN HAVE EVEN MORE CAFFEINE. BECAUSE WE NEED IT. OBVIOUSLY.
Unfortunately, all the energy in the world cannot prepare you for the uniquely New York (say that 5 times fast) experience of trying to haul a f*cking couch up 5 flights of stairs... but what if it didn't have to be that way? ICYMI, the artist behind 'Charging Bull' is not excited about his statue's new roommate.  Looking for some new digs yourself? You might have heard of co-working spaces, but why not take it one step further with co-living in a super trendy communal living space? Take your next date night to the highest level... breakfast after watching the sunrise on top of the Empire State Building. Extra AF? Definitely. Get ready to head down to Brooklyn this summer, because there's literally so much awesome sh*t going down in Brooklyn Bridge Park.
We'll bring the rosé.

Under the Bridge

Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy is pulling out all the stops this summer, by announcing the dopest line-up summer line-up since Gov Ball.
Get out your planner and get ready to pencil in pretty much every day at BBP, because there’s just way too much to do.
From outdoor movie screenings, sunrise yoga, fishing, kayaking, and art installations, at this point we’re ready to pitch a tent next to the new Luke’s Lobsters and take up permanent residence.

Everything’s Coming Up Rosés

Surprise, surprise!
You thought your days of drinking 40s out of a paper bag were way behind you, back in college where they belong!
Well knock knock, look who it is, 40-ounce bottles of rosé, just in time to liven up your picnics in Central Park, and provide you with the classy alternative to Edward 40-Hands you never knew you wanted.
We can’t wait to get wine drunk in the park this summer and ruin some relationships. But at least we’ll be classy about it.

Looking For Home?

Do you know your neighbors? In a city this size, there’s a good chance you don’t.
But wouldn’t it be nice if you could share a common living space with friends and have neighborhood events planned for you?
Common offers the ever-illusive communal lifestyle, bringing ambitious, creative professionals together with their unique approach to enabling community through hospitality.
One bedrooms, shared space and studios are available for rent in Common Baltic, located in Boerum Hill, Brooklyn.
You also get a ton of perks that are included in your rent, like access to their rooftop hangout and House Leaders that will host events for you and your neighbors.

Why We Can't Have Nice Things

We. Just. We just can’t even with this. I mean is anyone even surprised?
Instead of realizing the cultural significance of the wildly popular ‘Fearless Girl’ statue, the creator of the ‘Charging Bull’ statue came out with a butt hurt statement, saying that the statue was an “insult to his work” and that “she’s there attacking the bull.” Oy.
We'll let Mayor de Blasio take it from here: “Men who don’t like women taking up space are exactly why we need the Fearless Girl.”
Thanks for being He for She, Billy.

PIVOT PIVOT

Everyone hates moving: it’s exhausting, stressful and overall consuming.
But New Yorkers have a special hatred for moving, and it correlates with how high up your apartment is within the building.
The narrow stairways are no friend to that furniture you found on the sidewalk.
But what if the couch you need to bring up to the fifth floor breaks up and can be put back together—in 10 minutes—like pieces to a puzzle?
Our buds at Edge in Motion Productions have helped illustrate this all-too-real struggle we never knew would actually be solved by a kickass couch called Burrow.

Do it For the 'Gram

For a second, when we first saw this, we thought it said take your next date to watch them eat breakfast and we were like why would we need to go to the Empire State Building to creep out our Tinder date?
We can watch them eat breakfast from the comfort of our own homes after a successful Netflix and chill night, thank you very much.
But as it turns out, we’re actually here to tell you about a new, romantic sunrise breakfast on top of the Empire State Building, and some of us are creepy losers.
Carry on.

Sometimes it can be difficult to trust online reviews.
But the secrets out, and it can actually be soooo much cheaper to shop online.
Sure, you have to pay for shipping, but retail pricing almost always makes up for that and then some. So why not treat yourself to something that’s only going to continue to save you money?
Espresso drinks are damn expensive, and we’re pretty sure there isn’t a latte left at Starbucks priced under $5.
Check out these reviews of the best espresso machines on Amazon, according to hyper-enthusiastic reviewers who probably had a little too much espresso.
We can relate.

How You Doin'?

Old habits die hard, and one of this city’s habits seems to be the TV show Friends.
It’s okay, we all do it... go crawling back just to re-watch the same seasons you’ve already seen 5 times before.
But now, prepare for a totally new version of this guilty pleasure: Friends! The Musical!
Writers Bob and Tobly McSmith are at it again with their pop culture parodies, others of which include Full House! The Musical! and 90210! The Musical!
Copyright laws are in place with a show as popular as Friends, but we have faith that the team will do it justice.
We also kind of can’t wait to hear ‘Ross’ on stage singing, “We were on a break!!”
