With each new devastating breach of security—Equifax, Deloitte, and Sonic, to name a few—the need for increased cybersecurity awareness has never been more apparent. It's a good thing, then, that this month is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month (NCSAM).
Observed every October since 2004, NCSAM was created by the Department of Homeland Security and the National Cyber Security Alliance to ensure that every American has the resources they need to stay safer and more secure online.
And now Malwarebytes is doing its part. Each week on the Malwarebytes Labs blog, we'll focus on a theme and provide helpful articles, useful tips, and valuable analysis so that you can increase awareness and spread the word. This week's theme: simple steps to online safety. Now mosey on over to the blog to learn the easiest ways to protect yourself online!

Wall Street Informer
WSI TV Live:  This trick doubled my money on a 4% gain
By Sean Bower

Hello Friends,

You’re not misreading that…

I invested money into a single stock that went up 4% overnight, but when I checked my account it had doubled my money.

What should’ve been a $1,040 payout became a $2,000 payout!

The experts are all scratching their heads trying to figure out how I did this… I’m not gonna tell them, but I’ll let you in on the secret.

It’s all here in this short video…

Note from the Editor:  Another win in the books extends my streak to 21 trades and 21 wins. I’ll be making many more trades, but I need to get some more people on board so we can exploit this holy grail system for what it’s really worth…click here if you’re interested in getting on board.

EPI News—Our most important stories this week

Corporations and the wealthy don’t need a tax cut

In a new FAQ, EPI’s Josh Bivens and Hunter Blair explain why cutting taxes for corporations and the wealthy does nothing to help the middle class. Bivens and Blair debunk several myths that are repeated again and again by proponents of tax cuts, including the fact-free argument that cutting corporate taxes would boost job creation, wage growth, or investment. Corporate tax cuts are, in fact, “about the worst fiscal tool we have for stimulating job growth,” say the authors, because the bulk of corporate tax cuts will benefit the richest Americans, who are less likely to spend the additional income. Tax cuts aimed at low- and middle-income workers are a much better strategy, as is increased government spending—for example, through infrastructure investment. Read the FAQ »

Who benefits from the Republicans’ tax plan?

Contrary to Republicans’ claims, the middle class is not who they’re trying to help with their new tax plan. In a new Economic Snapshot, EPI’s Hunter Blair and Dan Essrow show exactly how the tax benefits would be distributed under the plan. Not surprisingly, the dollars pile high for the top 1 percenters—representing 80 percent of the tax plan’s benefits—while the meager remainder is spread thin among all other earners. Benefits are thinnest among the lowest 20 percent of earners. The top 1 percent would receive an average $207,060 tax cut while the bottom 20 percent would receive $50 on average.

Forced arbitration is bad for consumers

In a new brief, EPI’s Heidi Shierholz describes how the use of forced arbitration benefits companies at the expense of consumers—and the extent to which Wells Fargo cashed in on those benefits at the same time it was opening 3.5 million fraudulent accounts in customers’ names. Shierholz explains that customers almost never win when they bring arbitration claims against companies (only 9 percent of the time), while companies almost always win when they bring claims against customers (93 percent of the time). And Wells Fargo is winning even bigger than most companies. While the average consumer who enters into arbitration is required to pay $7,725, Shierholz finds that the average consumer who enters into arbitration with Wells Fargo is ordered to pay the bank nearly $11,000.

EPI in the news

The Washington Post interviewed EPI’s Valerie Wilson about the causes of racial wealth gaps in America. “If you are a black homeowner, you are more likely to have a lower value on your home because of neighborhood segregation,” said Wilson. “Blacks couldn’t purchase in white communities where values were rising faster.” | 1 in 7 White Families Are Now Millionaires. For Black Families, It’s 1 in 50. »
EPI’s Hunter Blair spoke with the The Philadelphia Tribune about the Republicans’ tax plan. “[The plan] does absolutely nothing for the roughly 61 million households—about 35 percent of all households—whose income already falls below the current standard deduction and personal exemption amounts,” said Blair. | GOP Tax Reform’s Sting on Black Community Would Be Significant »
Mother Jones quoted EPI’s Celine McNicholas on U.S. solicitor general’s reversal of the government’s position in National Labor Relations Board v. Murphy Oil USA, Inc., last June. The switch means the solicitor general will now be arguing against the National Labor Relations Board, a federal agency charged with protecting workers’ rights, and for businesses who are seeking to restrict those rights. “This is not normal, even in a change of administration,” said McNicholas in the article’s headline quote. | Trump’s Justice Department Is Taking on Other Federal Agencies in Court »
In a story about the Murphy Oil case, which focuses on the use of mandatory arbitration agreements in the workplace, NPR cited EPI research on arbitration, noting that 56 percent of nonunion private-sector employees are currently subject to mandatory individual arbitration procedures. | A “Yellow Dog Contract” and Other Jabs during Supreme Court Opening Arguments »
