Study the bible as it was originally intended

Israel Institute of Biblical Studies
.
Shalom from Jerusalem

The Bible is replete with examples of God getting mad at the sinful behavior of his people. Conversely, the Bible repeatedly reassures us that God is “slow to anger”.What exactly does it mean when a transcendent God has bodily emotions such as anger and patience? The answer may be found by peeling back the layers of translation and looking at the original Hebrew of the Bible.
Sincerely,
.

EPI News—Our most important stories this week

Employers steal billions from workers’ paychecks each year

In a new report, EPI’s David Cooper and Teresa Kroeger estimate that minimum wage violations—failure to pay the legally required minimum wage—cost American workers $15 billion each year. This form of wage theft doesn’t just harm workers and their families; it also costs taxpayers money and can hurt state and local economies. The authors find that workers suffering minimum wage violations lose nearly one-quarter of their earned wages—receiving, on average, only $10,500 in annual income if they work a full year. As a result, these workers are more likely to rely on taxpayer-funded public assistance programs and to have less money to spend in their local communities. Read the report »

Does cutting corporate taxes make businesses more “competitive”?

In a new report, EPI’s Josh Bivens and Hunter Blair argue that any corporate tax proposal should be evaluated by whether it would raise the living standards of typical American families—rather than by how it would affect corporate bottom lines. The authors also debunk the myth that U.S. corporations pay higher taxes than companies in peer countries and that they are therefore at a competitive disadvantage globally.

State austerity has harmed the national economic recovery

EPI’s Josh Bivens released a report finding that state and local austerity has contributed enormously to the nation’s anemic recovery from the Great Recession and will have adverse consequences for long-run productivity growth. To balance their budgets, Bivens says, states should lean more on progressive revenue increases and less on spending cuts.
