Who's ready for the weekend?
The West Indian Day Parade is going down this Monday, so get ready to party! It's gonna be a good month for bookworms, between the Brooklyn Book Festival, and Amazon opening their second brick-and-mortar bookstore in NYC. As anyone who's lived in the city for more than 2 months can and will tell you, things in NYC have seriously changed. There's a new show in town that kidnaps guests and throws them into a warehouse all the way out in Red Hook... getting home from there is probably the real horror. Chelsea Market just opened a grocery store, and we're a little too psyched to buy even more yummy food. We know we're not alone when we say booking hotels can be complicated AF... and for no reason!
Looking for a new book to distract you from subway purgatory? Want a live reading from a New York Times best-seller? Just looking for a mid-week free drink with some chill sophisticated folk? Oh, hey, we see you over there Brooklyn Book Festival! Running September 11-17, this event is a must see (or read, rather). READ MORE…
Can’t decide between the satisfaction of flipping physical pages and the need for Amazon ratings to tell you which titles are worth your while? Now you don’t have to! The e-commerce giant just opened its second brick-and-mortar bookstore across from the Empire State Building. They’re throwing out all the conventions, selling only the most popular books: 4.8 stars or above. The Internet is about to come to you IRL. READ MORE…
Looking for a unique cultural event to kick off your Labor Day? Look no further, friends. On Monday, September 4th, NYC’s West Indian American Day Carnival in Brooklyn is back and better than ever. Celebrate history, culture, and of course, some yummy Caribbean food. Be sure to bring your sunblocks 'cuz you’re definitely going to be there all day. READ MORE…
Trivago, Expedia, Trip Advisor, Orbitz, Travelocity… the options are endless and that’s the problem. Who knows who actually has the best deal? Well the Hotel Association of New York is teaming up with startup Kognitiv to create FindHotels.nyc to cut out the middleman and your confusion. The deals you see are actually what you’ll get– how refreshing is that? Plus you get to support NYC’s hospitality industry directly. Win-win. READ MORE…
We all know and love Chelsea Market for its amazing selection of prepared foods. Now the space is expanding with its new venture, Chelsea Local, a grocery store opening in the Market’s cellar. Now you can grab all the staples to bring home and complement all the food that, let’s face it, you were already going to buy. As their motto goes, “come early, stay late!” Now there’s even more reason to! READ MORE…
New York is so great. It’s like the birthplace of history itself. Sometimes you get off a train and feel like you’ve time traveled to 1915. This is the stuff dreams are made of. But times are changing for this concrete jungle and with that change comes new government policies, greed, and hyper-gentrifying neighborhoods that have left many historic eateries and pubs to their deaths. Jeremiah Moss, author of the new book Vanishing New York: How a Great City Lost Its Soul, documents the changes occurring in our beloved city like a detective would at a crime scene. We’re definitely reading this on the train. READ MORE…
Coming to a sketchy warehouse near you, the opportunity of a lifetime! Get locked in a Red Hook warehouse and escape before a psycho killer comes for you and your friends! Wait, what is this, Saw? Are we about to go all Shawshank and dig a tunnel out to safety for 20 years? We don’t know about you, but this escape-the-room-on-steroids looks like a recipe for fear... and disaster. READ MORE…
Wow, that was quick! The kids are back to school already? Wherever you are in life, we know you’re bummed about summer being over. Which is fine because we’ve rounded up a boatload (literally, get on a yacht!) of fun Labor Day weekend events to spice up your start to that fall feeling. Get down with live DJ’s and board games, catch a closing summer party at MoMa, and eat tacos and drink beer in the name of fundraising for abortions (yes, you read that right). Don’t forget your fave food fairs, Brizilian Day in Brooklyn, and wait for it...keep waiting...a rooftop vineyard. Ohhhh yeahh. Labor Day looks good on you, NYC. READ MORE…

Good morning from Washington. Robert Rector and Vijay Menon remind us of President Reagan's remark that "we should measure welfare's success by how many people leave welfare, not by how many are added." Have the liberals in your life been screaming about how the Trump administration won't require companies to give the government detailed salary info? Romina Boccia explains how President Obama's rule would have hurt women. Plus: Kelsey Lucas with a touching roundup of photos from Harvey, and Katrina Trinko on how, again, the facts got lost in an uproar about the voter fraud commission. Enjoy your weekend. |
