As we all know, catamaran is a synonym for hedonism and carefree sailing. With so many benefits that come with catamarans - safety and stability (they are practically unsinkable), plenty of space and comfort (which also guarantees more privacy) and better sailing performance - it is no wonder that the first ones are already being booked for 2018.
Hurry up and grab yours in one of the hottest Mediterranean destinations on time!

Failed System

CREDIT: AP PHOTO/JACQUELYN MARTIN
The day began with Betsy DeVos rescinding Obama-era guidelines for investigating campus sexual assault cases. For the time being, the department has implemented interim rules that will raise the evidence standards required for victims to prove their allegations. It’s still a major blow to campus sexual assault advocates, but it’s hardly a surprise considering that DeVos once referred to the guidelines as a “failed system.”

Since the White House is claiming ignorance on how Trumpcare could impact the country, we collected the data for them because today we had time.

Reading List

It’s starting to look like Germany’s far-right party is poised to elect its first delegates since 1945.
Russian nationalists and American white nationalists had a pow-wow for the first time in Washington. A prominent white nationalist told our reporter he thought the meeting was “tremendously positive in every regard.”
Here’s a radical idea: Give people who want to work a job.

Soundbite

“Indeed last night President Trump tweeted that he would not sign a bill that did not address the issue of preexisting conditions — really strong statement.”
— Sen. Bill Cassidy, apparently under the impression that Trump’s Twitter account is a good source of factual information

Week 35, in one sentence: President Donald Trump gave Kim Jong Un a new nickname: “Rocket Man”; retweeted an image that depicted him hitting a golf ball that strikes Hillary Clinton; saw the Russia investigation go from bad to worse for Michael Flynn and Paul Manafort, whose home was reportedly wiretapped before and after the election; delivered his first speech to the U.N., in which he threatened to “totally destroy” North Korea and called the Iran nuclear deal “an embarrassment to the United States”; endorsed the Graham-Cassidy heathcare bill, another GOP attempt to repeal and replace Obamacare; said that Graham-Cassidy wouldn’t be worse for people with pre-existing conditions, even though the bill allows states to bypass key protections for people with pre-existing conditions; was called a “dotard” and a “frightened dog” by Kim Jong Un, who threatened to “tame” the U.S. “with fire”; and rolledback another Obama-era guideline when his Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos announced temporary new rules on campus sexual assault to mostly protect accused men.

Day 239 — September 15

Calling out the "loser terrorists"

Trump used news of a terrorist attack in London — when a crude device exploded on a train and injured 23 people — to call for tougher action against “loser terrorists.” He also appeared to break news in a tweet: that these “sick and demented people” were “in the sights of Scotland Yard.” UK Prime Minister Theresa May later said it was not “helpful” for Trump to speculate about an ongoing investigation.
Trump also went after ESPN. In a tweet, he said the network is “paying a really big price for its politics,” apparently referring to ESPN anchor Jemele Hill, who recently called Trump a white supremacist. In response to a reporter at a daily press briefing earlier in the week, Sarah Huckabee Sanders had called for Hill’s firing.

A federal judge temporarily blocked the Trump administration’s attempts to punish sanctuary cities, which don’t indefinitely hold undocumented immigrants for federal immigration agents.  The Department of Justice wanted to withhold federal grant money from these cities.

Day 240 — September 16

Burning out his fuse

Trump spoke by phone with South Korea’s president about North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, whom the president has now dubbed “Rocket Man.”
“Asked him how Rocket Man is doing,” Trump tweeted the following day about the conversation. “Long gas lines forming in North Korea. Too bad!”

Day 241 — September 17

A day of memes

Trump retweeted a few positive memes of himself, including one of him pulling manufacturing plants back from overseas and another of a locomotivewearing a “Make America Great Again” hat. He then retweeted a GIF of him hitting a golf ball that strikes Hillary Clinton.

Day 242 — September 18

Mueller goes deeper

The federal investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election went from bad to worse for two major figures in Trumpworld: Paul Manafort and Michael Flynn.

Manafort, once Trump’s campaign chair, had been wiretapped by U.S. investigators before and after the 2016 election, three sources familiar with the investigation told CNN. After a raid on his Virginia home in July, prosecutors warned Manafort that he would soon be indicted as part of special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe, two people close to the investigation told the New York Times.
Flynn, Trump’s fired national security adviser who is the subject of numerous federal probes, tweeted out a link to a fund set up to help relieve the “tremendous costs of legal representation.”
A New York Times reporter overheard Trump’s attorney Ty Cobb, who’s in charge of the White House’s response to the Russia scandal, gossiping about the investigation to a  colleague at a steakhouse in Washington, D.C. Besides saying the White House isn’t “hiding anything,” Cobb also referenced a “couple documents” that White House counsel Don McGahn has “locked in a safe.”

Trump may be backtracking on his decision to pull out of the Paris Climate Accord, an anonymous international official told the Wall Street Journal. The official said that the Trump administration said at a Sept. 16 meeting that the U.S. would stay in the pact, after all.

Day 243 — September 19

Trump threatens to "totally destroy" North Korea

President Trump delivered his first speech before the U.N. General Assembly — a 41-minute barn-burner that sounded like a collection of some of his angriest tweets. In his speech, Trump:
  • threatened to “totally destroy” North Korea
  • called the Iran nuclear deal an “embarrassment to the United States”
  • urged world leaders to put their own countries first
  • bragged that the U.S. military will soon be the “strongest it has ever been”
  • said it’s too expensive to resettle refugees (a claim contradicted by a suppressed study from his own administration provided to VICE News)
  • complained about the U.S. paying “far more than anybody realizes” in aid to the U.N.
White House Chief of Staff John Kelly looked pretty upset while listening to the speech (as he often does when his boss is speaking).
Trump’s pick to lead NASA, Oklahoma Republican Rep. Jim Bridenstine, wants to study climate change — on Mars. While Bridenstine said the information could help us learn more about Earth, the theory is often peddled by climate skeptics, who attribute the global warming to the sun, instead of humans, like nearly every climate scientist agrees is the case.
Trump is using money donated to his 2020 re-election campaign and the RNC to pay for lawyers representing him in Mueller’s investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election, two sources familiar with the matter told Reuters.

The EPA is ignoring spills at one of Houston’s most polluted toxic waste sites, even after EPA administrator Scott Pruitt surveyed the area. Stormwater is flowing out of U.S. Oil Recovery, a petroleum waste processing facility in Houston, according to the Associated Press, but the EPA has said the area needs further assessment.

Day 244 — September 20

Still trying to repeal and replace

Trump endorsed a new healthcare bill from two Republican Senators, South Carolina’s Lindsey Graham and Louisiana’s Bill Cassidy. It’s the GOP’s latest effort to repeal and replace Obamacare, which the president urged Republicans to support in a few tweets. One singled out Sen. Rand Paul, who ran against Trump in the Republican primary for being “such a negative force” when it comes to “fixing healthcare.”
“I would not sign Graham-Cassidy if it did not include coverage of pre-existing conditions. It does!” Trump later tweeted. “A great Bill. Repeal & Replace.”
Trump either doesn’t understand the Graham-Cassidy bill or he’s deliberately misleading his Twitter followers. One of the big provisions of the bill, which was unveiled last week, loosens Obamacare protections on pre-existing conditions. Graham-Cassidy would also repeal Obamacare’s individual and employer mandates, which penalize Americans who don’t have health insurance and large employers who don’t have to provide coverage to employees. Medicaid expansion would take a big hit too.

Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price used to rebuke federal officials for traveling on private jets, but it seems times have changed. He took a private charter plane on official business five separate times last week on the taxpayers’ dime.

Day 245 — September 21

A "dotard" and a "rocket man" walk into a bar

Kim Jong Un responded to Trump’s threats to “totally destroy North Korea” by calling the U.S. president a “frightened dog” and a “dotard” (a medieval term for a senile, old person).
"I will surely and definitely tame the mentally deranged U.S. dotard with fire," Kim said.

While chairing Trump’s campaign, Manafort reportedly offered to give “private briefings” about the campaign to a Russian billionaire with close ties to the Kremlin, people familiar with the discussion told the Washington Post. “If he needs private briefings we can accommodate,” Manafort reportedly wrote in the July 7, 2016, email meant to reach Oleg Deripaska, a Russian aluminum magnate.

Day 246 — September 22

What campus sexual assault?

Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos rescinded Obama-era rules on campus sexual assault investigations and replaced them with temporary new rules. DeVos’ rules give greater protection to the accused — almost all men — by raising the evidence requirements to a “clear and convincing standard” of proof. Obama’s policy called for a lower standard of evidence to hold students responsible for sexual assault, which can lead to expulsion. Colleges can keep the Obama-era rules in the interim until the Trump administration implements a permanent replacement.

Trump responded to Kim Jong Un’s arcane insult with some standard name-calling. “Kim Jong Un of North Korea, who is obviously a madman who doesn’t mind starving or killing his people, will be tested like never before!” the president tweeted.

“Hatred paralyzes life; love releases it. Hatred confuses life; love harmonizes it. Hatred darkens life; love illuminates it.”
―Martin Luther King, Jr

News that matters

➜ If this week felt long and busy for you, that’s a good thing. Because if you happened to pick your head up from what you’re doing long enough to see what’s happening on the global stage, you’re not going to feel so hot. Last night, Trump imposed sanctions on North Korea, and of course, the dictator over there isn’t backing down either. Things just got real.

➜ Let’s shift from hate to love, shall we? And celebrate Fortune’s 20th annual list of the 50 most powerful women. It includes 26 CEOs who control over $1 trillion in market value and 9 in the tech industry. Sadly, there’s one very important woman in the political industry that didn’t make the list this year, even though over 3 million more people voted for her. Yep, life ain’t fair, but keep on punchin’ ladies.

What we're reading

It’s hard to believe that 2017 is almost over. It’s typically late December when we start getting “best of the year” lists, but publishers are getting antsy in September. So it’s official. We have the best books list of 2017 from Amazon’s editors. Have any idea what they might be? Go check them out and tell us what you think.

What we're listening to

It’s the freakin weekend, right? So let’s break out the scotch. Or more broadly, the whiskey. Because right now American Whiskey is on freakin’ fire. High quality, cheaper prices than the Japanese or Scottish varieties, and far more upside as an investment. So break out those whiskey stones from the freezer and clink, clink yourself a glass. Clink is a sound right?
Chris Brown - Turn up The Music
Turn up the music (just turn it up loud-er)! Head straight into the weekend with a little throwback to Chris Brown. And keep it on repeat because, this week tho amiright?

What we're watching

Peter Rabbit Trailer
Adulting is just too hard. Can we all just agree to stop for a bit and just lay on the ground for awhile. Nobody bother anyone. Just have someone come around with graham crackers, break them on the lines, and make it okay to take a nap at 2pm again. So yah, let's go back in time and watch this new sequel for Peter The Rabbit. NO MORE ADULTING.
