Friends --
Thank you so much for adding your name and joining President Obama on Team Hillary. President Obama will leave an incredible legacy of progress -- from marriage equality to health care to waging the fight on climate change, he's lead our country forward. We can't risk letting Donald Trump win the Oval Office, roll back everything President Obama's done, and possibly take our country (and the world) to the brink of a global crisis. His bigoted and divisive beliefs could tear us apart. With Trump as the Republican nominee, this election is about more than just what kind of laws we enact as a nation -- it's about who we are and what we believe in. It's on all of us to fight to protect our values. Ask three friends to join the team today by forwarding the President's powerful endorsement of Hillary, and make sure they know what's at stake:
Thanks,
Hillary for America

| Respected friends,
In 2013, the War Resisters League put out a call in Critical Resistance’s The Abolitionist—a newspaper that reaches thousands of people in prisons and jails—for stories from people who had tear gas or pepper spray used against them. They soon received over one hundred replies. The experiences described in the letters sound like nothing less than torture. “They didn’t hit me with the gas until the fight was over and I was already in handcuffs and shackles,” a woman imprisoned by the Colorado Department of Corrections wrote. “The captain sprayed me directly in the face. I immediately began to choke, snot, tears, and saliva spewing from my face. It felt like I was breathing fire. A couple minutes later I began to vomit….I was not allowed to wash the chemical off until three days later. So for those three days the chemicals continued to burn my flesh.” The Nation has joined with the War Resisters League to demand that Sally Q. Yates, the deputy attorney general of the Department of Justice, take action against human-rights abuses on prisoners involving tear-gas weapons nationwide. Will you join us?
Another letter writer, a man incarcerated in West Virginia, wrote that he had been pepper sprayed about 15 times over 8 years of incarceration and listed the chemical agents used as punishment against him: Grenades, pepper spray, tear gas, evaporating fog pepper-spray, pepper ball guns, tasers. As Daniel Moattar noted in a recent article for The Nation: “For now, inmates like those at Mount Olive [West Virginia] have no obvious recourse. Producers of tear gas and pepper spray worry more about finding new markets than navigating the law. Even if existing restrictions on the use of force were enforced, the direct use of pain-inducing chemicals on prisoners, including inmates restrained or in solitary, is still minimally regulated and broadly legal.”
Join The Nation and the War Resisters League in calling for an end to the use of tear gas in prisons.
All the best, Sarah Arnold

SERVEUSE AGRESSÉE À NICE : DU COMMUNAUTARISME REVENDICATIF À L'ISLAMISME AGRESSIF
|
|
