THE RIPPLE EFFECT OF MICROSOFT'S LINKEDIN ACQUISITION

The week opened with the major announcement that Microsoft had purchased LinkedIn for $26.2 billion.

And everyone from the tech world to Wall Street reacted to the blockbuster news.

The general consensus was positive, as LinkedIn offers strategic opportunities for Microsoft, and Microsoft provides LinkedIn investors with a much-needed exit given the social media platform''s slowing growth.

"From a Microsoft perspective, we believe the strategic rationale makes sense," wrote Citi analysts Mark May and Walter Pritchard.

"LinkedIn has, for some time, been the 'Outlook address book' for most business professionals," they continued. "There are likely new ways Microsoft can integrate/extend this franchise by owning it."

BI Intelligence has a full breakdown of this deal, including the chart below.

Code Blue

Meredith Grey would be pissed. In not surprising news, a new study has found that white male doctors are making more than both their female and black counterparts, male or female. In fact the income gap between white male doctors and black female doctors is as much as $100,000. The survey looked at 60,000 physicians and their earnings from 2000 through 2013. Dr. Dan Ly, a VA Boston Healthcare System physician said, “Our findings are not only disconcerting for black male doctors but also highlight the lower incomes of female doctors relative to their male peers.” White male doctors earned on average $253,042 a year compared to $188,230 for black male doctors. Female doctors earned less than both groups — $163,234 for white female doctors and $152,784 for black female doctors. (Related: Did Salesforce Just Solve the Wage Gap?)

Welcome to Zadar

Zadar is the city of exceptional 3000 years old history and very rich historical heritage that will always offer something new and completely original. The city is located in the heart of the Adriatic coast and has been a central part of the North Dalmatia with 75000 inhabitants. In the blend of the beauty of the past and all benefits that a contemporary traveller demands the City of Zadar offers many tourist attractions: if you are looking for an ideal accommodation, authentic gourmet delicacies, cultural attractions, modern sports facilities and different types of excursion programs – you have chosen the right destination for holidays, sports and entertainment. The particularity of the city is irresistible to those that respect and admire historical monuments and cultural heritage, artists, tourists and their citizens. Zadar is a city in which the large areas are left for pedestrians. The walk through cobblestone streets of the city will become a walk through history, and an experience of the contemporary life. Being a monument town surrounded with the historical city walls, City of Zadar is a true treasure trove of the archaeological and monumental treasure of ancient, medieval and Renaissance periods, as well as numerous modern achievements such as the first Sea Organ in the world. The centuries of the turbulent history, destruction and creation left scars but numerous records of time as well, which is today’s valuable monumental city heritage. From all historical periods there have been preserved many churches and monuments holding visible architectural works of art of many styles. There are around 70 monuments in the very historical centre of the city, while other parts are located in the immediate or wider surroundings and count over 600 static historical monuments.Extremely indented coast, islands and untouched nature attract many yachtsmen in this very area. The archipelago that consists of 24 larger and even around 300 smaller islands, three Nature Parks – Telašćica, Velebit and Vransko jezero, as well as five National Parks – Paklenica, Plitvice, Kornati, Krka and North Velebit make Zadar an ideal starting point for visiting all those parks, all in the area of 100 km. Even forty years ago Alfred Hitchcock proclaimed sunset in Zadar “the most beautiful in the world”. Many tourists agree with his opinion and enjoy the views of the sea, sunset and sky with the sounds of the world famous Sea Organ and light magic of the new urban installation “Greeting to the Sun”.City Zadar Your Pocket - Zadar Republic Croatia Highlights

Taylor Swift’s 1989 tour is finally over, but if you think she is relaxing, you would be wrong. In addition to giving herself an awesome punk makeover she is working on a greeting cards collaboration with Papyrus. According to Papyrus’ Instagram account, the colorful, bejewled cards currently available in US stores is “just the beginning” of a potentially larger project. Taylor Swift stationary! As Huffington Post said, Swift is basically a human greeting card so this makes complete sense. She can just take a photo of one of her cats or her cookie parties or one of her many BFFs wearing a matching outfit with a hashtag and be done with it. Cram Session

We all know the difference a three-day weekend can make to our work week. It’s an extra day for bingeing, seeing more friends, getting over jet lag and let’s be honest, nursing the world’s worst hangover. So imagine if you only had a one day weekend, which is what our ancestors had to deal with for a long time. Only one day for brunch and going to an exercise class to work off that brunch and then go out again making the exercise class redundant? Ridiculous! Luckily in the 19th century the Britons (you know it’s a really long time ago when you get to use words from Monty Python and The Holy Grail) got them to change that so you could spend your Sunday on your couch ordering Seamless.  Basically instead of observing the Sabbath on Sundays they were partying so as a result they were heading to work (at the….cobbler shop? mill? pooridge store? building huts place?) quite a bit hungover. So many people were coming in late or just skipping work altogether that eventually it became known as “Saint Monday.” This led to factories by 1850 letting employers take a half-day on Saturday if they would definitely come in Monday. Eventually this turned into two full days off and then eventually ABC gave us the TGIF lineup and the rest is history. But next time you get the Sunday blues just think about how bad they would have been if you hadn’t had even had Saturday. (Related: 7 Activities Super Successful People Do on the Weekends)

Friend --

It's hard to believe that it's been five and a half years since I got the call that there had been a mass shooting at a constituent event in Tucson, Arizona and that my friend, Gabby Giffords, had been shot. The shooter was armed with a semi-automatic pistol and high-capacity magazines. Six were killed, and Gabby and a dozen others were shot point-blank and critically injured before he could be stopped.

It's hard to believe so much time has passed -- because in spite of all our hope and resolve that families and loved ones would never again have to be on the receiving end of a call like that, nothing has changed. In 2011, we pleaded for commonsense gun reform. We did it again in 2012, after 20 first graders and six adult teachers were gunned down at Sandy Hook Elementary School. And again in 2015, after nine worshipers were killed at their historic black church in Charleston, South Carolina.

And we find ourselves there again today, after the worst shooting in U.S. history, when 49 of our fellow Americans were killed and many others injured in a gay club after a night of celebrating, like so many of their LGBT brothers and sisters across the country, this month of Pride.

Last year, President Obama said, "At some point, we as a country will have to reckon with the fact that this type of mass violence does not happen in other advanced countries. It doesn't happen in other places with this kind of frequency. And it is in our power to do something about it."

And yet nothing has been done -- because after every tragedy like this, when we should be able to unite as Americans, instead we find ourselves divided because of leadership that lacks the conviction to stand up to special interests and take commonsense, bipartisan action.

This November, we have the power to do something about it. We saw how Donald Trump behaved in the aftermath of yesterday's events. Rather than show he can comport himself like a leader, he fed into the bigotry and divisive rhetoric that creates bigger problems for us rather than try to solve the ones we can if we unite around a common goal -- and moral imperative -- to do better as a country.

If you're committed to that, as I know I am, I know we -- along with President Obama and every Democrat on the ballot in November -- can make a difference. Add your name if you're with us:

Thank you.

Planned Parenthood, Leader in Violence Against Humans, Defends Islamic Terrorism
I’m used to Planned Parenthood saying and tweeting idiotic things. I’ve also come to expect that mainstream media will ignore the lunacy of this taxpayer-funded activist group.
