On the day of the Orlando shooting, I happened to be talking to polymath and author John Demartini. John wrote the 2013 book, The Values Factor (and 40 other books) and is an expert in a varied number of fields. When I spoke to him he was in South Africa about to give a speech and had no idea what had just happened. But he shared his advice drawing on the wisdom of Victor Frankl, Aristotle, and Freud. I asked John, "In a situation like this where there's a clash of values that can prevent us as a human species from taking the right action, how do we know what is right? How do we identify the higher common values that can unite us so we can do something about this situation?"

The clock is ticking. Our right to know what we are eating is on the line.
On July 1st, Vermont will become the first state to make GMO labeling mandatory -- IF we can prevent Monsanto and friends from blocking it before then. They’re trying to push through a last ditch attempt to kill GMO labeling nationally. We have to stop them! Don’t let Monsanto destroy GMO labeling: Write to your Senator NOW! Here’s what’s happening: Monsanto and friends have been pressuring some Senators to push through a proposal that would prevent mandatory on-package GMO labels, and instead “label” with QR codes and phone numbers. What does that mean? Well, if you don’t have a smart phone, or you don’t want to call a different phone number for every package you buy, you will stay in the dark about what you are feeding your family. Hiding information behind QR codes and phone numbers is wrong. Lower-income, rural and elderly Americans who have less access to technology would have an even harder time indentifying what’s in their food. This is outrageous. But to make matters worse, your Senators might let it happen. We need to send them the message: We want labeling we can see with our eyes, not with our phones. Tell your Senators: OPPOSE these renewed efforts by Big Ag. No compromises on GMO labeling! Campbell’s, General Mills, Mars and Kellogg’s and others have said they will label GMOs to comply with the Vermont law. They know their customers want clear, on-package GMO labels. We are so close to securing our right to know -- we can’t let Monsanto get in our way!Tell your Senator to only support real on-package GMO labeling that is accessible to everyone!

Why the President is traveling to Yosemite today: National parks are an American invention. They are treasures in our national inheritance -- millions of acres of public lands and waterways -- that one generation passes on to the next. These beautiful spaces offer adventures for our children, essential protection for our wildlife, and support for local economies. Yet, we aren't entitled to them. Our public lands need our protection -- they need our dedication to their upkeep and our commitment to their expansion. And it falls on the shoulders of each new generation to carry on this stunning inheritance, because even though our national parks are vital to our future, the consequences of climate change are becoming more evident every day. That's why the First Family is traveling to Carlsbad Caverns and Yosemite National Parks this weekend. Not only are they celebrating the National Parks' 100th anniversary, they're highlighting the critical role our parks will play in America's next century. You can follow the First Family's trip this weekend on our live blog. That's also why President Obama has taken unprecedented action to invest in America's natural resources, setting aside more public lands and water in his two terms than any president in American history. He is America's most prolific conservationist -- and he's not done yet. Here's what you need to know about President Obama's historic conservation record:
