The Brief: This Is What Working Out in the Morning Says About Your Personality

Startup Nation

Thinking about starting a company? You really should because according to First Round's most recent annual survey of 700 startup founders, 91 percent say now is a good time to launch a startup. However, 57 percent also think we’re in a bubble (down from 73 percent last year) and most founders think it will be harder to raise capital in the next few months. As for gender parity in startups, most founders are optimistic that there will be an equal amount of men and women running and founding startups...in 14 years. And they think this despite the fact that 11 percent of them currently run companies with companies with zero women employees and 61 percent of them have all-male boards. Well, here is to their optimism!

The Early Bird is Probably Type A

There are certain stereotypes we associate with people who workout first thing in the morning: Type A, perky, the owners of huge hair ribbon collections. And apparently we were right to make those stereotypes because a new study by market research company CivicScience finds a lot of those to be true. The data showed that morning workout people are more likely to earn over 100K a year, save their money, volunteer, and buy organic food. So basically, they are your worst nightmare....OR I mean awesome if that is you!  These people also tend to be better about working out regularly (because they already did it so they don't have to make up fake excuses like the rest of us.) Morning exercise enthusiasts also tend to live in the Midwest, listen to country music while they get their sweat on, and love a good documentary and Pinterest board. Wow that is detailed. Do they also tend to love the movie While You Were Sleeping? So what about those night time people? Well, according to this data you are pretty much everyone in their early 20s. Not really, but most night time exercisers are millennials, earn under 50K and love a good bowl of Kashi cereal or Chex. You also like coffee and beer and tend to go out for dinner (probably to Chipotle) or order in twice a week. Yup, that sounds about right.

Barbie Girl

In totally amazing news today they are making a live-action Barbie movie and the one and only #amy-schumer‍  is slated to star as the famous stiletto-wearing doll herself. According to Deadline, Schumer will play a character who lives in Barbieland, with all the other dolls in Barbie universe. And if you think about it that would actually be a pretty cool universe as Barbie has over 180 different occupations including astronaut. But Schumer's character apparently doesn't fit in so well so she gets thrown out and finds herself in our crazy world. Basically it's the plot of Enchanted, but probably with less singing animals and more alcohol (I mean, it is Schumer after all) plus plastic high heels! The Emmy winner is also slated to rewrite the film along with her sister Kim Caramele.

Brave New Films
Stjepan, Every vote should count equally, regardless of where you live.
This is the second time in five elections where a presidential candidate who won the most popular votes lost the election. The winner-take-all Electoral College system that led to this anti-democratic outcome must be changed, so that voters in all 50 states have a say in choosing our president.
Add your name to end the out-dated, anti-democratic Electoral College's power to overturn the popular vote.
If we can get enough states to sign onto the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact, our presidents will be elected by the national popular vote —  it would fix the problems of the Electoral College without needing to amend the Constitution or go through Congress.

That's why Brave New Films is working with a large coalition to build momentum to get this enacted nationally.
Stjepan, please add your name today and urge lawmakers in your state to join the National Popular Vote compact.
Let's make our democracy work for all!

Onward,
Regina Clemente, Campaigns Director
