Myths & Facts: Online Exclusive |
Does the Israeli government wants to destroy the al-Aqsa mosque?
In August 1929, rumors spread of Jews killing Arabs and of a Jewish plot to seize control of Muslim holy places on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. With a rallying cry to defend the al-Aqsa Mosque, Arab mobs looted Jewish shops and attacked Jewish men, women, and children throughout the country. By the end of the rioting, 135 Jews (including eight Americans) were killed and more than 300 wounded.
This was the first time during the British Mandate that religion played a direct role in stoking the conflict in Palestine. It would not be the last, however, as Muslim leaders have found it advantageous to periodically make similar accusations to arouse the local population and the Muslim faithful worldwide.

Mitchell Bard in the Jerusalem Post |
The press is full of dire warnings that Israel is isolated and growing more so, and that the boycott, divestment, sanctions (BDS) movement is having a devastating impact on the Israeli economy. It's no mystery that Israel is politically at loggerheads with much of the world over the disastrous Iran deal, settlements and inaction on the peace process; nevertheless, diplomatic ties remain intact. Moreover, despite the desperate hopes of the BDS campaign, economic ties are flourishing.
Overall, Israeli exports have grown from around $5 million in 1948, to more than $47 billion in 2014. Israel's largest single trade partner remains the United States, despite political tensions between the political leaders. The total volume of trade in 2014 was $36 billion. In addition, each of the 50 states benefit from their ties with Israel. In 2014 alone, 21 states exported more than $100 million worth of goods to Israel, led by New York with exports of more than $5 billion.

Arab Bank Terrorism Financing Case Reaches
Out-of-Court Settlement
A United States federal court in Brooklyn heard opening statements on August 14, 2014, concerning a civil case 10 years in the making brought by 297 individuals against the Jordan-based Arab Bank. The suit originated in 2004 when 297 US citizens who were victims or are family members of victims of terror attacks carried out by Hamas sued the Arab Bank for providing funding to the Hamas terror organization from 2001-2004. When the suit was first filed in 2004 there were 6 victims involved, and that number grew exponentially over the years.
According to the plaintiff's lawyers the Arab Bank provided "extensive and substantial material support" to Hamas, violating the US Anti-Terrorism Act of 1990. The Anti-Terrorism Act allows for all victims of foreign terror organizations to pursue monetary compensation in a US court. The bank was referred to as the "paymaster, the distributor of funds" to Hamas during the first day of the trial. The case stalled for many years due to the Arab Bank's noncompliance with releasing certain documents and account information. This is the first time in the United States that a civil suit has been brought against a bank on the accusations of funding a terrorist organization.

Brijuni Islands
The Brijuni archipelago consists of 14 gorgeous islands. In 1983, Brijuni islands were declared a national park. The largest island is Veli Brijun, where you can see the remains of Villa Rustica from Roman times, a safari park, the Archeological Museum and St. German church.Brijuni, a group of islands comprising of two large and twelve smaller isles, are strung along Istria’s south western coast not far from Pula. Their surface area is barely seven km2, but together with the surrounding sea the total area of the park is 34 km2. Brijuni are renowned for its indented nature and the unspoiled Mediterranean vegetation, but the islands also boast an invaluable cultural heritage dating from the Roman and Byzantine times, which alongside with the outstanding natural beauty, has made them a popular holiday destination among the world statesmen and the aristocracy. Although not inhabited, because of the numerous tourists who are ferried over from the mainland by boat, there are people on the islands all year round. Veliki Brijun offers accommodation in three small hotels, enabling their guests to savour an atmosphere of peace while being surrounded by beautiful nature and having the tourist flurry of Pula within easy reach. The site of the first golf course in Croatia is on Brijuni. Despite the numerous visitors, the landscape has been well preserved, as proved by a large number of birds which winter on the islands.
