What’s in Your Wallet?

Who needs a credit card? Apparently not millennials. About 64% of Americans aged 16 to 36 do not own a credit card, according to a Bankrate.com survey of over 1,000 U.S. adults. That’s about half the rate of credit card ownership for older adults over 50. Millennials think that the way to avoid debt is to just not have access to a magic plastic card that lets you charge whatever and then face the consequences later. If you think about it, this isn’t the worst logic. Bankrate’s personal loans and credit analyst, Mike Cetera said, “I heard from a lot of people that they know will need [a good credit score] someday, but not right now, so it’s not a priority at this point.” Cher Horowitz would be so confused. Men-Torying

Tory Burch is definitely paying it forward. The fashion mogul just announced Kate McAleer as the winner of the Tory Burch Foundation’s inaugural Fellowship Program’spitch competition. She was awarded a $100,000 grant investment for her business, Bixby & Co. based in Rockland, Maine. Bixby & Co. produces American made organic & vegan friendly candy snack bars. Kate was among the ten women entrepreneurs who attended a three-day workshop at the Tory Burch offices where they participated in a pitch competition to present their business plans in front of a judging panel of successful entrepreneurs and leaders. The pitch competition judging panel included Burch, Glamour Editor Cindi Leive, Sallie Krawcheck, CEO and Co-Founder of Ellevest and Liya Kebede, Designer, Supermodel and Founder of LemLem. “I believe it is important for women to support the business aspirations of other women. Tory’s program empowers women entrepreneurs to achieve their goals and build great businesses,” said Krawcheck. Go Bag or Go Home

Looking for a statement bag that is also a great investment? Apparently there is no contest when it comes to Chanel. Birkin Schmirkin. The Chanel Medium Classic Flap handbag is increasing in value every year, according to the luxury handbag marketplace, Baghunter. In fact, over the last six years, the bag’s worth has gone up by more than 70 percent.  Now I am not in anyway saying that yoi should max out your credit cards (which you don’t even have if you are a millennial apparently) but when you have earned enough money this is a purchase to think about (or possibly steal from your mom or grandmother.)  After all, Highest Paying Careers, finds that 65 percent of bosses say that dress could be the deciding factor between two similar job candidates. Kat Griffin, founder of Corporette, says, “If her bag purchase is noticed around the office, it will be with nods of approval—she’s noted what is appropriate and she is investing in her wardrobe to bring it up to the standards of that office.” Plus, where else are we going to put all of our stuff? Both our hair and our bags are full of secrets. (Related: A Beginner’s Guide to Investing)

The Season 2 premiere of Another Period on Comedy Central! If you’re feeling some major Broad City withdrawal then this is the show for you. Created and written by comedians Natasha Leggero and Riki Lindhome (you’ll recognize them both from literally everything) the show takes place in the early 1900s in the high society of Newport. It is basically an American satire of Downton Abbey and the results are hilarious. “We’d like to thank Comedy Central for this continued opportunity to dress like queens and act like assholes,” said Leggero and Lindhome.
