Even though the resignation of House Speaker John Boehner was sudden, it could lead to a historic opportunity for McMorris Rodgers. If current Republican Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy takes over for Boehner at the end of October, that leaves the House Majority Leader position wide open for McMorris Rodgers. If she took the post, this means that for the first time ever, the top Republican and Democratic leadership roles within the House of Representatives would belong to women (Nancy Pelosi is the Democratic Minority Leader). Background info on McMorris Rodgers: She was elected cochair of the Congressional Caucus on Women’s Issues, leads a diversity caucus focused on the notoriously male-dominated tech industry, and is a mother of three. She will face some tough competition, but it’s great she’s in the running. They were all over the Prada and Moschino shows in Milan this past week in tweeds and wools and plaids, as well as fun, bright colors. Plus, Amal Clooney, who’s basically the poster goddess for all working women, was recently seen in a skirt suit, so we’re pretty sure everyone will be wearing these by tomorrow. Pope Francis Blesses Rick Santorum’s Daughter Bella, Who has Survived the Odds With Trisomy 18
In a post on Twitter, presidential hopeful Rick Santorum shared a picture of his daughter Bella being blessed by Pope Francis. Bella suffers from a chromosomal condition called Trisomy 18, also known as Edwards’s syndrome. According to the Trisomy 18 Foundation, the condition is extremely rare and occurs in only 1 out of every 2500 pregnancies in the United States and about 1 in 6000 live births. Tragically, the one-year survival rate for Trisomy 18 is 1%.
