PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA REFLECT ON STANDING AT THE IN GREECE

 THE WHITE HOUSE

Go behind the scenes with President Obama in Athens:
This week, President Obama got the chance to visit the Acropolis in Greece. Watch the President reflect on standing at the birthplace of democracy during the final overseas trip of his presidency.
Video: President Obama visits the Acropolis in Athens, Greece
"One of the great joys of being the president is the ability to travel and see different cultures and meet different people. That’s important for our national security but it’s also important for us to understand ourselves and our place in the world.
Video: President Obama visits the Acropolis in Athens, Greece
"We’ve got the Parthenon behind us, part of the Acropolis. It is here in Athens that so many of our ideas about democracy, our notions of citizenship, our notions of rule of law, began to develop. "And so when you visit a site like this not only are you getting a better understanding of Greece and Western culture, but you’re also sending a signal of the continuity that exists between what happened here, the speeches of Pericles, and what happened with our Founding Fathers.

"And it’s a very important role for the President of the United States to send a signal to the world that their culture, their traditions, their heritage, their monuments, are something of value, and are precious, and that we have learned from them.

"Because what that does then is send a strong signal around the world that we view ourselves as part of a broader humanity and a community of nations that can work together to solve problems and lift up what’s best in humanity."
Follow along with President Obama's trip to Greece, Germany, and Peru.

Newt Gingrich won't serve in Trump Cabinet
Former House speaker Newt Gingrich said Thursday he will not serve in President-elect Donald Trump’s Cabinet. “I want to be free to network across the whole system and look at what we have to do to succeed,” Gingrich said when briefly reached by phone. Holding a Cabinet post would have been “not physically doable,” he said in interview.

WHY ISN'T AMERICA CASHLESS YET?

Sweden is leading the way in cashless adoption, as just 2% of its transactions now occur by cash.

And in four years, experts forecast the use of debit cards and mobile payment apps will shrink that percentage even further to 0.5%. Sweden's central bank is even considering launching a digital currency.

The U.S., however, has been slow to adopt cashless transactions, as Americans still pay with cash about half the time.

Why? Privacy concerns and a lack of trust in government and banks are the main issues, but Business Insider's Chris Weller has the full story.

The Brief: This Group is the Most Bored At Work

Bored To Death
Bored at work right now? Well probably not since you are reading this :) But turns out many millennial women are quite bored with their jobs. A new survey from Udemy found that millennial women are more bored at work than any other group (48 percent of women versus men.) Millennials are also two times more bored at the office than Baby Boomers, according to the survey of 1,000 full-time office workers. And this boredom don't come cheap. “Actively disengaged employees cost the U.S. $450 billion to$550 billion in lost productivity per year,” according to Gallup. So what is the cause? Nearly 50 percent felt that they had a lack of opportunity to learn new skills and 44 percent said the work was unchallenging and didn't use any of their education. A 2012 Harvard Business Review study found that dissatisfaction with employee development efforts leads to early exits. But there are some easy fixes as 80 percent agreed learning new skills would make them more engaged.

Tech Check
For every two men appointed to a tech company board of directors in the first half of 2016, one woman was appointed, according to research by Redfin, a national real estate brokerage. Doesn't sound too good, right? But on the bright side, that’s up from one woman for every six men in 2013. “Since it seems unlikely that three times as many females became qualified for board seats over three years, we have to conclude that what matters is not just women’s qualifications but the board’s search process,” said Redfin CEO Glenn Kelman, who co-authored a blog post with Redfin CTO Bridget Frey on the research findings. The study pointed out that these appointments are essential as "The rise in diverse appointments could re-shape an entire generation of new businesses in profound ways: boards hire CEOs, set executive pay, investigate high-level discrimination complaints and approve executive promotions." Check it out here.

Turkey Lurkey
Good news. Thanksgiving may be a little cheaper this year so you can spend all your money on Black Friday.  The Farm Bureau’s 31st annual price survey found that cost of Thanksgiving dinner has now gone back down to below 50 bucks coming out at $49.87. “Consumers will pay less than $5 per person for a classic Thanksgiving dinner this year,” AFBF Director of Market Intelligence Dr. John Newton said on the group’s website. “We have seen farm prices for many foods - including turkeys - fall from the higher levels of recent years. This translates into lower retail prices for a number of items as we prepare for Thanksgiving and confirms that U.S. consumers benefit from an abundant, high-quality and affordable food supply.” Guess what this also means? More money for alcohol. We especially love this one called "Family Time is Hard." It's just so accurate.
