Futures point to a higher open on Wall Street this morning, as one of the two busiest weeks of earnings season draws to a close. That likely won't be enough to keep the major averages from registering a negative week, with the Dow down about 354 points, or 2 percent, going into the week's final trading session and the S&P 500 andNasdaq Composite both down more than 1 percent.
Amazon shares are up about 18 percent in premarket trading after the online retailer blew past quarterly earnings and revenue estimates, boosted by growth in North America and its cloud computing segment. CEO Jeff Bezos made a paper gain of more than $7 billion. (CNBC)

Amazon is reportedly backing Staples' effort to buy rival Office Depot. Sources tell the New York Post the e-commerce giant hasreached out to the Federal Trade Commission through intermediaries to voice its support for the deal, which would reduce the number of competitors to its Amazon Business unit. (NYP)

Anthem said Friday it had reached a deal to buy Cigna in atransaction valued at $54.2 billion that would create the largest U.S. health insurer. The announcement follows Aetna purchase ofHumana for $37 billion. (Reuters)

The U.S. Federal Communications Commission has approvedAT&T's $48.5 billion bid for DirecTV, sources told Reuters. The FCC this week laid out conditions for the merger , including measures to provide Internet to middle-class and low-income Americans. (Reuters)

Comcast has held preliminary talks with a number of online publishers about possible acquisitions, according to the Wall Street Journal, which says the talks included Vice Media, BuzzFeed, and Business Insider. (WSJ)

The State-Boston Retirement System filed a class action lawsuit against 22 financial companies that have served as primary dealers of U.S. Treasury securities in federal court on Thursday, alleging a conspiracy to manipulate Treasury auctions. The suit names Goldman SachsJPMorgan Chase and Bank of America's Merrill Lynch among others. (Reuters)

European drugs regulators on Friday gave their approval toGlaxoSmithKline's Mosquirix, the world's first malaria vaccine, for use in babies in Africa. It would be the first licensed human vaccine for a parasitic disease if approved by the European Commission. (Reuters)

The International Monetary Fund warned that Japan is in danger ofmissing its 2 percent inflation target unless it accelerates structural reforms and prepares to ease monetary policy further. The IMF said Abenomics is too reliant on a weak yen for reflation. (CNBC)

Two inspectors general have asked the Justice Department to open a criminal investigation into whether Hillary Clinton mishandled sensitive government information on a private email account she used as secretary of state, officials told The New York Times. (NYT)

A gunman killed two people and injured seven more in a theater shooting in Lafayette, LA Thursday evening. Police said a white male in his 50s opened fire in a screening of "Trainwreck" before turning the gun on himself. (NBC News)

In contrast to the earnings calendar, it's been a light week for economic reports, and it will conclude with just one report today.June new home sales are out at 10 a.m. ET, with economists looking for a gain of 0.7 percent following May's 2.2 percent rise.
The earnings deluge lightens just a bit today, with no reports scheduled for this afternoon and just a handful of well-known companies this morning. Reports are due from AbbVieAmerican Airlines GroupBiogenJohnson ControlsMoody'sState StreetVF Corp, and Xerox.

STOCKS TO WATCH
Pandora beat estimates by 3 cents with adjusted quarterly profit of 5 cents per share, and the online radio service's revenue was also above estimates on a jump in both subscribers and advertising revenue. Pandora also raised its full-year forecast.
Visa earned an adjusted 74 cents per share for its latest quarter, 15 cents above estimates. The credit card issuer's revenue also surpassed analyst forecasts, and Visa said it was in talks to rejoin former subsidiary Visa Europe.

Starbucks saw its latest adjusted earnings per share come in 1 cent above estimates at 42 cents, with revenue in line. The coffee chain was helped by new drinks and increased food sales. Starbucks also announced an increase of 50 million shares in its stock buyback program.

Juniper Networks scored a 13 cent beat with adjusted quarterly profit of 53 cents per share, and revenue was also above Street forecasts. The networking equipment maker also gave strong earnings and revenue guidance for the current quarter.

WATERCOOLER
Americans will eat nearly 18 percent of the world's chocolate by value in 2015, around $18.27 billion worth, according to data from Euromonitor. Still, the U.S. ranks behind 19 other countries in terms of chocolate intake, including front-runners Switzerland, Austria and German. (CNBC)
Universal Pictures has greenlit a "Jurassic World" sequel, slated for June 2018. The action-adventure has earned $1.5 billion at the global box office, making it the third highest grossing film of all time. (Reuters)
