U.S. stock futures bounced this morning, after concern about Apple's (AAPL) earnings knocked Wall Street lower Wednesday. In the busiest day for profit reports, some 50 companies are releasing results today. (CNBC)
This morning's earnings onslaught features three Dow components,Caterpillar (CAT), McDonald's (MCD) and 3M (MMM), along withGeneral Motors (GM). This afternoon, it's Dow stock Visa (V), as well as Amazon (AMZN) and Starbucks (SBUX). (CNBC)

The chief financial officer of Bank of America (BAC) is leaving the company amid an executive shake-up, sources tell CNBC. The current head of global corporate credit and transaction banking is taking over next month. (CNBC)

Qualcomm (QCOM) is cutting its workforce by about 15 percent,contributing to $1.4 billion in cost reductions. The digital communications products maker also issued an earnings beat but a revenue miss. (CNBC)

Cigna (CI) shares spiked in premarket trading on reports thatAnthem (ANTM) was closing in on a $48 billion deal to buy its smaller peer. Anthem has made multiple bids for Cigna this year. (WSJ)

British publisher Pearson is exploring a sale of the Financial Times to a global, digital news company after owning the newspaper for nearly 60 years. (Reuters)

The NYSE and Nasdaq OMX Group (NDAQ) are working on a framework to allow them to back up each other's closing auctions if they are interrupted by a technical glitch. (Reuters)

Under the new compromise, New York City will move forward with a traffic study without capping Uber and Lyft licenses that are issued until after the analysis is concluded at the end of November. (USA Today)

Ray Dalio's hedge fund Bridgewater Associates, an outspoken bull on China, said the country's recent stock-market rout will likely have broad, far-reaching repercussions. (WSJ-subscription)

Gold was higher this morning, after marking its 10th straight sessionof losses Wednesday, the longest losing streak in almost 20 years.
U.S. oil futures were stable this morning, after settling Wednesday below the psychologically important $50 a barrel level for the first time since April.

Besides the continued flood of earnings, there are two economic reports out today: the Labor Department's weekly look at initial jobless claims at 8:30 a.m. ET and the Conference Board's index of leading economic indicators at 10 a.m. ET.

Italian luxury sportscar maker Ferrari has filed with U.S. regulators for an initial public offering of its common stock. The company is being spun off from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.

STOCKS TO WATCH
Wal-Mart (WMT) has taken full ownership of Chinese e-commerce firm Yihaodian.com, buying out the 49 percent stake that it did not already own. Last month, China said it will allow full foreign ownership of some e-commerce businesses.
Continuing to add new perks for Prime members, Amazon has quietly introduced a credit card that pays back 5 percent on every Amazon.com order.

Texas Instruments (TXN) matched estimates with earnings and revenue. But the chipmaker warned about profits and sales going forward, citing weakness in PCs and communications equipment markets.

The CEO of agricultural chemicals group Syngenta (SYT) ruled out further negotiations of a merger with rival Monsanto (MON), describing the attempted takeover offer as "woefully short."

More than 100 prominent oncologists are calling for support of a grassroots movement to stem the rapid increases cancer drug costs, including letting Medicare negotiate prices with pharmaceutical companies. (NY Times)
