Dear friends,
Tell your Senators: Don't gut the Endangered Species Act and clear the path for Keystone XL!
One of Donald Trump’s first attacks on our environment was to advance the Keystone XL pipeline. He reversed President Obama’s rejection of the pipeline in January.
Keystone XL would carry 830,000 barrels of the world's dirtiest oil every day from Alberta, Canada, to the U.S. Gulf Coast. It would add annual greenhouse gas emissions equal to 37.7 million cars. And it would put the critically endangered whooping crane -- protected under the Endangered Species Act -- at risk of extinction.Friends of the Earth is suing the Trump administration to stop Keystone XL on the grounds that it violates the Endangered Species Act. But at the same time, Trump and his enablers in Congress are trying to gut that law -- clearing the way for them to build the pipeline. We need your help to stop them!
Tell your Senators: Don’t gut the Endangered Species Act and clear the path for Keystone XL!President Obama was right to reject this pipeline. It poses a grave and immediate threat to our climate, to every community it cuts through, and to our wildlife.Trump and Congress are justifying their attacks on the Endangered Species act by saying it’s “not working.” But that’s blatantly untrue. In fact, the Endangered Species Act has a 99% success rate! The truth is, they want to repeal this critical law so there will be fewer obstacles in their path to build pipelines like Keystone XL. But if you speak up, you can stop them.
Tell your Senators: Don’t make it easier for Big Oil to build Keystone XL and other pipelines!Trump and Republicans in Congress are only concerned about whether protecting endangered species gets in the way of Big Oil’s rampant destruction of our environment.
Big Oil is likely doing everything it can to make sure Congress decimates the Endangered Species Act. So it’s up to you to make sure your Senators know what their constituents think: our wildlife matters more than polluters’ profits.
Speak up NOW to save endangered species from extinction! Don’t let the GOP roll back the Endangered Species Act!
Standing with you,
Marcie Keever,
Legal director,

NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council)
Urge Your Governor to Lead on Climate Action
Take Action
Join NRDC and Al Gore's An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power in showing governors that millions of Americans demand strong action on climate.
TAKE ACTION

Eleven years ago, former Vice President Al Gore's groundbreaking documentary film An Inconvenient Truth brought the climate crisis to the forefront of public discussion and helped spur a massive movement of awareness, action and organizing to protect our planet.

Now, Mr. Gore is back with a timely follow-up to his renowned documentary.

An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power explores where we are in our climate fight a decade later, just how close we are to a real energy revolution and what we still need to do on the international, state and local levels to get there.

The film's release couldn't come at a more critical time, as President Trump recklessly attempts to roll back any action on clean energy and climate change, including pulling the U.S. out of the Paris climate agreement.

But across America, local elected officials -- especially state governors -- are stepping up and pledging their commitment to the Paris Agreement. They promise to continue working to advance clean energy, create jobs, reduce pollution and achieve united action against climate change.

That's why NRDC and Participant Media's An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power are joining forces to show local leaders that millions of Americans demand strong action on climate change.

Send a message asking what your state governor is doing to make Maine a leader in the fight against climate change and for clean energy.

President Trump's irresponsible decision to pull the U.S. out of the Paris climate agreement abdicates America's world leadership on climate and clean energy and threatens our planet's future.

Because of this failure of climate leadership from our national political leaders, it's never been a more important time for our governors to step up. But they need to hear from you.

Click here to watch a trailer of An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Powerand to urge your state governor to commit to climate action and secure Maine as a leader in clean energy.

We must show the world that if President Trump won't lead...the American people will.

Thank you for standing by our side and don't forget to see An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power in select theaters July 28 and nationwide August 4.

Sincerely,

Rhea

Pink mirrored glasses. You know what they say about rose-tinted glasses.
Smocked midi dress. The bodice of our ’90s youth makes its debut in a 2017-approved yellow.
A marble tray. Aperol spritzes, anyone?
A low-back one-piece. For optimal tanning potential.
A pajama set. Because your college softball tee has seen better days (and the UPS delivery man doesn’t want to see it anymore, either).
A wrap dress. Ultra-flattering and appropriate for all occasions.
A fun pool float. Forget the swan, you need a peacock for all of your floating.
Organic body serum. Between swimming and sunning, your skin takes quite a beating. Quench any dry or dehydrated patches with this oil-based serum.
A beach cruiser. Nothing screams summer like an all-white bicycle. Basket not optional.
Bell-sleeved mini. Not only is this frock an instant statement-maker but it also comes in 13 colors. (Just sayin’.)
A colorful tote. This bag has all the stops: whimsical peacocks, on-trend embroidery and playful tassels.
A facial kit. Save time and money with this three-step system. The first wipe exfoliates, the second pad firms and lifts, and the final moisturizer keeps skin hydrated.
Chic carry-on. So many weekend trips, so little time many clothes to pack.
Bright sandals. A pop of color to set against that perfect tan. (And psst: This pair’s 40 percent off.)

How to design an American icon

While we're like "eek!" chains, dining at The Cheesecake Factory is an American rite of passage. And for more than just mammoth slices of its eponymous dessert—its eclectic décor is an essential part of the experience. Eater recently sat down with the restaurant's interior designer Rick McCormack to find out the surprising origins of the Victorian-Egyptian-French (!?!) cafe design. MEET RICK[Eater]

Now booking: Myanmar food excursions

"A couple of years ago, you wouldn't have seen a restaurant that has good food and great ambience," said owner of San Francisco hot spot Burma Superstar David Tan during a recent trip to his native Myanmar. Although the country had previously been off the radar of American travelers, in 2012 the US loosened trade sanctions following the first democratic elections in over a decade. Cue a flourishing expat community that's created a fast-growing market for everything from gelato to local Camembert-style cheese. All the more reason to book a trip before everything changes. PLAN YOUR TRIP [Travel + Leisure]

No ice cream maker required

While most of the Insta-worthy black ice cream popping up has been more eye-boggling than delicious-looking, this black sesame coconut ice cream is the inky treat we'll return to long after the activated charcoal trend is over. This vegan recipe uses coconut milk as a base, the perfect nutty and creamy contrast to earthy black sesame seeds. If you don't have an ice cream maker, you can just blitz it in the food processor after freezing. GET THE RECIPE[Leite's Culinaria

If you Googled 'Best Asian Food LA' back in 2009, the internet would tell you to go to Starry Kitchen, the "most definitely illegal" restaurant that Nguyen Tran and his wife Thi set up in their North Hollywood apartment after Tran lost his job. Join us TOMORROW July 16th at 11am at the Palihouse Hotel West Hollywood as WOM's very own Leiti Hsu sits down with Tran to talk dinner party invites for strangers, cannabis tasting menus and his trademark banana suit. We've set aside the last spots at the table, comped and limited to the first 20 WOM readers who RSVP by midnight PST tonight.
