If you’re lucky enough to land a date this summer, you probably want it to be cool, right?
Right.
But if you’re already nervous AF, then the pressure's only heightened when you need to suggest a place for said date.
And if you come up with an innovative first date idea, you just might get a second date!
Well okay, we can’t actually promise your date will like you. But we can promise that these date ideas totally rock.

Is anyone actually surprised that Chris Christie was enjoying time with his family on the beach he closed?
Hmm.
Do politicians just have a running pool going right now to see who can be the actual worst?
We wouldn't be surprised.

Mexican shrimping pushed the vaquita porpoise to the brink.
Take Action
Together, we can help save the world's most endangered marine mammal.
TAKE ACTION
RESPECTED FRIENDS,

If you don't know where your shrimp comes from, you could be helping to push the vaquita porpoise to extinction.

The vaquita, which means "little cow" in Spanish, lives in Mexico's Gulf of California and is dying at an alarming rate — fewer than 30 vaquita now remain. If this decline continues, the vaquita will be gone by 2019.

The single biggest reason for the porpoises' devastating decline? For years, they got entangled in Mexican shrimping gillnets.

The Mexican shrimp industry sold its vaquita-deadly shrimp to major retailers and restaurant chains in the U.S. — where you or I could unknowingly purchase it.

Mexico issued a nominal ban on gillnet fishing in 2015. But enforcement has been so lax that from 2015 to 2016, half the vaquita population was lost.

And the shrimp industry has failed to undo the harm it inflicted on the vaquita. We need as many people as possible to step up and push the industry to publicly demand that the Mexican government expand its efforts to save the vaquita — before they're gone forever.

Here's what you can do:

1. Sign our petition urging Trader Joe's and Northgate Market to stop carrying Mexican shrimp. These west coast-based companies are important, high-profile retailers of shrimp from Mexico.

2. Join NRDC for a rally in front of the Mexican embassy in D.C. on July 6 and help escalate pressure on the Mexican government to do more to ban the gillnets that harm vaquita. (Plus, be one of the first 100 people that come to the rally and you’ll get a free t-shirt!) Details here.

3. Boycott Mexican shrimp. As a consumer, you can use your purchasing power to help push Mexican authorities to implement and enforce a total ban on the vaquita-killing gillnets that are driving this magnificent species to extinction:
  • When shopping at your local supermarket, fish market, or wholesale club, check the label on shrimp. If it's from Mexico, don't buy it. Then, ask the store's manager to stop carrying it — or start shopping somewhere else.
  • If you aren't sure whether or not your store carries Mexican shrimp, ask before you buy! If the store doesn't have an answer, ask them to find out, and avoid buying shrimp there in the meantime.
  • If you see shrimp on a restaurant menu, ask if the shrimp is imported from Mexico. If the restaurant can't guarantee that it's not, order something else.
Each time you choose not to eat Mexican shrimp — or ask your local store to stop carrying it — you bring us a step closer to saving the vaquita. So commit to boycotting Mexican shrimp today — then sign our petition asking Trader Joe's and Northgate Market to stop selling it!

We can do this, together. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Rhea

RESPECTED FRIENDS,

Help us reach 25,000 signatures: Stop Big Oil from drilling in protected areas in our oceans!

This week, Donald Trump’s Interior Department announced that it’s taking the first step toward massively expanding oil drilling in our oceans. This puts federal waters that President Obama put off-limits under threat. It would affect the Arctic, Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.
If Big Oil is allowed to drill in these areas, it will be only a matter of time before the next oil disaster. Fragile marine ecosystems and coastal communities would be at risk. We need your help to stop Trump’s plan!Help us reach 25,000 signatures: Stop Big Oil from drilling in protected areas in our oceans! This announcement is just the latest in Trump’s all-out assault on our oceans. At the same time, he’s trying to open our National Marine Sanctuaries -- from the Marianas Trench to the Channel Islands -- for oil and gas drilling.
It’s clear what Trump is trying to do. He’s aiming to roll back decades of environmental progress -- all to help his friends in the fossil fuel industry.
Add your comment: Stop Trump from handing over our oceans to Big Oil.
From Exxon Valdez to the Deepwater Horizon oil spills, Big Oil has proven that it’s willing to endanger everyone and everything living in and near the ocean -- as long as it makes a profit.
We can’t afford another catastrophic spill in our oceans. Our marine ecosystems, local economies, and communities are at stake.
So we need you to prevent Trump from opening our coast to oil drilling!Stop Trump’s attacks on our oceans and coastal communities! Add your comment today!
Standing with you,
Marcie Keever,Oceans and vessels program director,

July 01, 2017
A chic midi to wear to your brother-in-law’s sister’s wedding next month.
Because you’ve been eyeing a pair like this since April.
FYI: If you don’t buy this $10 frock, we will.
On trend and half off.
An investment piece that may quickly become a closet mainstay. (Just picture how chic this will look with over-the-knee boots.)
Because off-the-shoulder mania shows no signs of slowing down.
Ditch the matching scarf for now, then sneak it back into rotation come October.
Works après-beach and après-ski.
So you can look cute without looking like you’re trying too hard to be cute.
You’ve been toying with the idea of bridge-less frames. Well, now’s your chance to try them at 60 percent off.
For slidin' right into that vacation state of mind.
To accomplish your goal of a summer dress for every day of the week.
If you’ve been hesitant to try out this bold trend, give it a go at a discounted price.
Bold colors meet flattering vertical stripes in this slinky halter dress.
Now’s the time to get a jump on that fall handbag of yours.
