| How do you feel about allowing phone calls during flights? |
Dear CNET members,
I'm sure most of you have heard, read or seen the news about the incident on United Airlines flight 3411 where a man was violently dragged off the plane when he refused to give up his seat on a full flight when United wished to accommodate four crew members. Long story short, when I read and saw the video of what happened, I was pretty disturbed by the actions United took to remove the passenger. SMH. If you haven't heard about the incident, give these videos a watch and see if you agree with me. Now, while we are on the topic of airlines, my topic turns to something less disturbing than this incident: allowing phone calls on flights. The topic of allowing phone calls on flights has been debated for years. And yesterday, US Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai, as described in this article "FCC chairman: Let's kill plan that considered in-flight calls," said he wants to put this debate to rest permanently and kill any possibility of allowing phone calls during flights. In his statement he said: "I do not believe that moving forward with this plan is in the public interest. ...Taking it off the table permanently will be a victory for Americans across the country who, like me, value a moment of quiet at 30,000 feet." While he states it is in the "public interest" to remove the possibility of ever allowing calls during flights, I want hear it directly from your lips, how do you feel about calls during flights? Should they be allowed or not? Do you think this something that the government should rule on or should this be decided by the airlines themselves?
