This Just In!
So we’re a little bummed that this amazing new Facebook feature is only available in Ireland, mainly because it’s FINALLY giving us what we want: something other than a “like” button. It’s no “dislike” button, but at least we can show our friend that they’re video of they’re cat running on a treadmill made us laugh so hard we cried, or that we totally feel for you when you got sprayed by a huge truck with dirty road water. Read more about it here. [Related: This New iPhone Hack Will Change Your Life]
Ummm What?
As Don Draper once famously said on Mad Men, when Peggy said he never thanked her for all the work she did, “That’s what the money is for!” It seems like a basic concept, but some companies are a little confused about this. Urban Outfitters, everyone’s go-to place for letting your inner hipster comes out, seems to feel that they don’t have to pay their employees for their services. Hmm. Read more about ithere. California Girls
In addition to having some truly awesome songs written about them, it also literally pays well to be a California girl. On Tuesday, Gov. Jerry Brown signed one of the toughest pay equity laws in the nation. According to a U.S Census Bureau report from 2015, women in California who work full time are paid on average 84 cents for every dollar a man makes. But that’s changing big time. This new California Fair Pay Act will give employees more support for challenging perceived income discrimination. It basically says employers can’t pay workers less than those of the opposite sex for similar work, even if their titles are different or they work at different locations. California girls, they’re unforgettable. (Related: How Serious Is Your Work Anxiety?)
Pumpkin Crisis
We don’t want anyone to panic, but it may be the end to Thanksgiving as we know it. In some sort of cartoon-like universe, there’s a shortage of canned pumpkin. Ugh. Now we’ll all have to pretend we enjoy Pecan Pies like some sort of animal. If you’re one of those people who plans ahead, you’re going to want to make a grocery store run now and pick up 40 a few cans of pumpkin. This may be worse than the great rosé wine crisis of 2014 in which people had to drink the thousands of other wine flavors available. And in more pumpkin news, Starbucks has started a secret society for Pumpkin Spice Latte fanatics, and it doesn’t involve doing anything weird or violent like in that movie The Skulls. From what we’ve gathered, it sounds like if you purchase a lot of PSLs you get a free knitted orange koozie. Everyone knows cardboard sleeves are for peasants.
