The region consists of the Sava valley on the south, the Drava valley on the north, the mountains surrounding the Požega Valley on the west, and plains in the east.
History and Culture
The area was named after the Slavs who settled there in the Early Middle Age. However, Slavonian history is more than 8000 years old.The cultural heritage of Slavonia represents a blend of social influences through its history, especially since the end of the 17th century.
WINES
Traditionally Graševina (and other Rieslings), Frankovka, and Traminac have been grown the most, but in recent times varieties like Chardonnay, Pinot, and Merlot are catching up.
In Roman times the area, now called Slavonia, developed as a province where wheat and grapes were grown.
Vineyards yielded wines of such quality that they were given appellations such as Mons aureuor Vallis aurea.
Today these areas are the Baranja and Požega-Pleternica wine growing hills which, together with the Kutjevo vineyards and cellars, rank among the oldest European wine cellars.
In other wine-growing areas around Đakovo, Slavonski Brod, Nova Gradiška, Pakrac, Feričanci, Orahovic-Slatina, Virovitica, Erdut, Vukovar and Ilok, the grape vine has been cultivated for more than a thousand years.

STJEPAN,
No good can come of a bill that has the support of the NSA, some of Wall Street's biggest banks, Big Oil and insurance companies. But that's just who's rallying behind a really bad "cybersecurity" bill barreling its way through Congress. The Cyber Intelligence Sharing Act, or CISA, is a monster of a deal, granting big businesses and banks legal immunity to do almost anything they want with our data — in exchange for sharing our personal information with the government.Mitch McConnell has moved the Senate toward a vote on this, and it could happen in the next 48 hours. Can you send an email to the Senate right now and ask that they oppose this bill?
If you've been with Demand Progress for a while, you might remember when we fought back an earlier version of this bill by the name of CISPA. In fact, we've successfully fought back three or four iterations of this same bill. So why is it back from the dead? Well, some of Congress' biggest donors are corporations hoping to reap the benefits of this deal, and high-profile security breaches at Sony, Target and the Office of Personnel Management have brought cybersecurity back to the forefront. While Internet users like you and me have reason to be concerned by those hacks, CISA is not the appropriate response. In fact, there's clear evidence that this kind of proposed data-sharing would only make our personal information even more vulnerable to attacks. Our civil liberties shouldn't be sold out to the highest bidder. Can you send an email to the Senate today and ask that they oppose CISA?
We've taken this bill down many times before. And with your help, we're going to do it again.
Thanks for standing with us,
—Sara, Daniel, David, Kurt, Victoria and the rest of the Demand Progress team

Excerpts:
In 2006, I had a bit of a lucky break. Coming off of a bad run of underemployment and a housing market crash that ramped up just as I was getting my real estate license, I landed a job working for an elite crisis communications firm just outside of Washington, DC. The firm in question specialized [...]

Just a few minutes ago, the Center for Medical Progress released their latest undercover video of Planned Parenthood’s revolting practices – this despite a federal judge (one who is an Obama appointee and who raised $200,000 for the president’s campaign, natch) issued a temporary restraining order on Friday to stop the video’s release. And the desperate attempt [...]

Yesterday, the question of whether to defund Planned Parenthood — which receives half a billion dollars annually from the taxpayers so they can dismember children — was put to a vote in the U.S. Senate. The measure was, as we all expected despite our hopes and prayers, defeated. In case you were wondering how your [...]

It was the last weekend in October, 1999, and my friends and I were on a four-day break from classes at Franciscan University’s Austrian campus. We had journeyed half-way across Europe to Normandy, France, stopping first in Bayeux on that Thursday to see the magnificent 11th-century cathedral and its eponymous, world-famous “tapestry“. After a night spent trying to [...]
