Debt Talk
You know that pesky little student debt problem ($1.2 trillion) this country has? Well, one presidential candidate has a plan to work on it and her name is Hillary Clinton. At a town hall meeting in New Hampshire this week, the state with the highest amount of student debt, Clinton will announce her grand plan, which includes reducing the cost of four-year public schools, making two-year community colleges tuition-free, and cutting student loan interest rates, according to her campaign aides. Read more about it here. (Related: 8 Best Colleges for Budding Feminists)
Heavy Medals
Olympic swimmer Katie Ledecky, who won four gold medals and set two world records in Barcelona, had a tremendous week at the World Championships. She set her 10th world record of the past 24 months and won four medals! No female swimmer had ever won four individual golds in a single World Championship and no swimmer, male or female, had ever swept the 200, 400, 800, and 1,500 freestyles in a single Worlds. This amazing feat is now known as the Ledecky Slam, but it looks like no one will ever be able to try for this again since there won’t be a 1,500-meter freestyle event at the 2016 Olympics in Brazil. Why, you ask? Because of some antiquated system, which believes women aren’t strong enough to swim the “metric mile.” But since Ledecky clearly proved women are capable, the Olympics committee may have to reconsider. Her current world-record time is better than the national men’s record in 50 countries and is more than 24 seconds below the time requirement for U.S. men to qualify for the Olympic trials. Someone should mention that at the next meeting. (Related: 4 Famous Feminist Trailblazers to Follow Now)
“I’d Like More Fat in My Water”
From the people who brought you butter in your coffee, they have now decided to do something gross, but super healthy, to your water. You know when you’re drinking water and thinking if only this had some oil mixed in it? Well, you’re in luck. Dave Asprey, the inventor of Bulletproof Coffee (aka Butter Coffee) decided to take the only drink with no calories, add oil to it to make it fattening, and then name it Fat Water. But apparently it’s the good kind of fat (medium chain triglycerides are so hot right now) and is way better for you than a sugary water or soda. This water is also more hydrating and gives you an added burst of energy, so they say. Basically this could be a good alternative to your coffee or your butter coffee.
