Sandro Magister, talijanski novinar objavio je pismo papi Franji koje je navodno potpisalo 13 kardinala, izražavajući ozbiljnu zabrinutost zbog manipulacija na Sinodi biskupa.
Samo pismo, njegov sadržaj i imena kardinala koji su potpisali pismo je brzo postala dominantna tema u Vatikanu (pogotovo po hodnicima na samoj sinodi).

Nakon izražavanja zabrinutost o radnom dokumentu Sinode te postupku i sastavu povjerenstva koje će izraditi završno izvješće Sinode, potpisnici su u pismo dodali:
Stvorila se zabrinutost da novi postupci nisu vjerni tradicionalnom duhu i svrsi Sinode. Nejasno je zašto su ove proceduralne promjene uopće potrebne. Brojni oci osjećaju da je nova procedura dizajnirana kako bi olakšala provedbu unaprijed određenih rezultata o važnim spornim pitanjima.
Naposljetku, a možda najhitnije, različiti očevi su izrazili zabrinutost da na Sinodi sazvanoj radi rješavanja važnih pastoralnih pitanja – jačanju dostojanstva braka i obitelji – dominira teološko/doktrinarno pitanje pričesti za rastavljene i civilno ponovno vjenčane vjernike. Ako je tako, to će neminovno izazvati još temeljnih pitanja o tome kako će Crkva, gledajući unaprijed, tumačiti i primjenjivati Božju Riječ, crkvenu doktrinu i svoju disciplina u skladu s promjenama u kulturi. Slom liberalne protestantske crkve u moderno doba, ubrzan zbog njihovog napuštanja ključnih elemenata kršćanskog vjerovanja i prakse u ime pastoralne prilagodbe, zaslužuje veliki oprez u našim sinodskim raspravama.
Među 13 potpisnika, prema Magisteru, bili su kardinali Carlo Caffarra, Thomas Collins, Timothy Dolan, Willem Eijk, Péter Erdö, Gerhard Müller, Wilfrid Napier, George Pell, Mauro Piacenza, Robert Sarah, Angelo Scola, Jorge Urosa Savino, André Vingt-Trois.
U međuvremenu, neki od njih su se ogradili od pisma, odnosno sadržaja u njemu onako kako ga je predstavio Magister. S druge strane nitko ne negira ovu inicijativu koja dolazi od, mogli bismo reći, teških igrača u Rimskoj kuriji.
Vatikanski glasnogovornik Lombardi već je kratko nakon toga potvrdio autentičnost pisma, ali o samom pismu nije želio ništa reći jer je posrijedi ,,povjerljivo” pismo. Smatra se da je Papa još 6. listopada, kao odgovor na pismo, u svom zapaženom govoru dao do znanja da se sinoda neće baviti samo pitanjem rastavljenih i da se crkveni nauk o braku neće mijenjati.
Da stavimo malo u perspektivu koliko su važna ova pitanja citirat ćemo završne rečenice nadbiskupa Stanislawa Gadeckog iz Poznana koji je u svom izlaganju na Sinodi istaknuo da govori u ime cijele Poljske biskupske konferencije kada kaže:
Odluka da im se (razvedenima i ponovno vjenčanima) omogući primanje Svete pričesti će otvoriti vrata ovog sakramenta svima koji žive u smrtnom grijehu. To bi pak dovelo do eliminacije sakramenta pokore i iskrivljenog značenja življenja u stanju posvetne milosti. Štoviše, mora biti navedeno da Crkva ne može prihvatiti takozvani “zakon postupnosti” (Ivan Pavao II, Familiaris Consortio, 34). Kao što nas je papa Franjo podsjetio, mi koji smo ovdje ne želimo i nemamo moć promijeniti doktrinu Crkve.
A vezano uz manipulacije na tiskovnoj konferenciji (o čemu se također šuška ovih dana) vrijedno je spomenuti da je svećeniku vlč. Nicholasu Gregorisu, koji više od 15 godina pokriva vijesti iz Vatikana, poništena akreditacija, te mu je rečeno da “odmah” napusti prostorije. Opoziv je došao nakon što je ‘izazvao’ nadbiskupa Paul-Andre Durochera nakon konferencije za novinare 6. listopada na kojoj je prelat tvrdio da je dopuštenje pričesti za razvedene i ponovno vjenčane još uvijek otvoreno za raspravu.
S druge strane, moram reći da sam bio nemalo iznenađen kada sam primijetio da je osim novinara priliku za postavljanje pitanja dobio i aktivist iz New Ways Ministry, udruge koja promiče LGBT pitanja u Crkvi. Njima je dodijeljena akreditacija za tiskovne konferencije iako im je Američka biskupska konferencija izrazito zabranila da javno nastupaju u ime Katoličke Crkve.

In Spain, the parents of a severely disabled 12-year-old girl won the right to starve their daughter to death by taking away the food and water she was getting via a feeding tube. A week after depriving her of the nutrition she needed to survive, the young girl named Andrea Lago passed away.
