THE LIVE STREAMING VIDEO REPORT: Forecasts, emerging players, and key trends for brands’ and publishers’ next big opportunity…

Live Streaming Video Chart 1
ACCESS FULL REPORT
In 2015 brands and advertisers embraced online video. In 2016 the medium is taking the next step as live streaming takes off.
Live streaming video refers to broadcasts in real time to an audience over the internet. While the concept of live streaming has been around for years, mobile-first video platforms with user-generated content have just recently begun to make serious waves thanks to improved video quality, faster broadband speeds, and enhanced mobile technology.
Online video has become a key part of the strategic business model for both brands and marketers as they seek more innovative ways to capture consumer attention. Creative live streaming video initiatives and campaigns are a way for companies to cut through the digital clutter and have emerged as the medium of choice not only for person-to-person sharing, but also for business-to-consumer (B2C) and business-to-business (B2B) communication.
Brands are increasingly using live streaming to reach audiences. Its importance has grown significantly thanks to substantial investments by social platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, Snapchat, and Twitter to build and enhance their live-streaming platforms.
And advertising dollars are likely to follow. 88% of agency respondents stated that they “might” or “definitely will” invest in live stream video advertising over the next six months, according to a recent Trusted Media Brands survey.
This BI Intelligence report examines the eruption of online video from the perspective of both consumers and advertisers and assesses how live streaming is emerging as the medium's next catalyst for growth.
Live Streaming Video Chart 2
ACCESS FULL REPORT
  • Live streaming video will further accelerate streaming videos overall share of internet traffic. Streaming video accounts for over two-thirds of all internet traffic, and this share is expected to jump to 82% by 2020, according to Cisco’s June 2016 Visual Networking Index report.
  • Live video’s value comes from its unique ability to add an authentic human element to digital communications. As a result, brands are leveraging three main streaming methods to connect with their viewers: tutorials, product launches, and exclusive and behind-the-scene footage.
  • Advertisers will continue to invest heavily in online video, especially as live streaming video gains traction. Already in the US, digital video ad revenue reached $7.8 billion in 2015, up 55% from 2014, according to figures from the Internet Advertising Bureau.
  • While live streaming is still in its early stages, brands are leveraging micropayments, mid-roll video ads and direct payments from social platforms, to monetize their live streaming videos.
  • The success of live streaming video hinges on brands overcoming a lack of measurement standards in the space, as well as changes in social media sites' algorithms that affect what content users see.
This exclusive report also:
  • Examines the eruption of live streaming video.
  • Explores the differences between platforms that host live streaming video.
  • Breaks down successful approaches from both brands and publishers.
  • Discusses unique monetization opportunities live streaming presents.
  • And much more.

High Rollers
Looking to make more money? Hopefully you went into one of these professions. Glassdoor just came out with its annual highest paying job survey and the top spots aren't surprising. A new report by Glassdoor says 68 percent of people who participated in a survey consider salary and compensation among the most important factors when deciding where to work. And apparently as long as you are cool with going to school for a long time before you start working you will make plenty of money as both doctors and lawyers nabbed the top spots. Physician was No. 1  with a Median Base Salary of $180,000 and lawyer was second with a Median Base Salary: $144,500. Check out the rest of the list here.

Embrace Your Lazy Side
If you are new at your job a great way to get on your coworker's good side and possibly even make them your new work BFF is to offer to pitch in on projects and help them. But you should stop doing this right now because it is sucking the life out of you. According to a recent piece in theHarvard Business Review, University of Florida business professor Klodiana Lanaj found that helping out your colleagues is literal drain on your energy. In two recently published studies, Lanaj found that though the act of helping may make you feel energized for a bit, it then leaves you feeling totally exhausted.  So you may make some friends, but is it even worth it if you are too tired to hang out with them after work?

Good News?
Like many of us out there I consider myself to be a coffee addict. I do believe that I am truly not myself until I have one Venti coffee—OK two Venti coffees (though I add a lot of milk)—everyday. Now, no, I am not getting the shakes in a back alley somewhere (while wearing jean shorts and combat boots of course) if I can't get my cup of coffee, but I definitely may be a little (let's call it) witchier (since it's Halloween time) than usual. But apparently calling myself an addict is not correct. Dr. Samuel A. Ball of Yale University—a professor of psychiatry and also the president and CEO of The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse says you are not actually addicted to coffee (thus making the entire Gilmore Girls series a sham.) You may really love coffee and definitely experience some withdrawal symptoms if you give it up (headaches, tiredness, pretending your dog is your barista, seeing green mermaids on all cups), but it is not real addiction. It is simply that you are physiologically dependent on caffeine (well, that just doesn't sound as cool.) To sum it up basically you may love your coffee, but you probably wouldn't let getting a cup hurt other aspects of your life. Maybe you would be late for work, but if it is was really putting your job in peril you wouldn't do it. Or if a puppy died every time you bought a cup you would most likely stop (there is always Red Bull after all.) When you are truly addicted to something, you let it infiltrate other aspects of your life. Now Candy Corn is a horse of a different color...

Dear friends,

Add your name: Tell President Obama to keep fossil fuels in the ground!
President Obama has called climate change the greatest threat to our planet and future generations. He’s admitted that we’re not moving fast enough to address that threat. Meanwhile, he’s sold over 25 million acres of public lands and waters to Fossil Fuel Empires to mine, drill and frack.  President Obama still has 92 days left in office to make this right and establish a real climate legacy -- but he needs to hear from you NOW! Tell President Obama: Stop auctioning off our public lands and waters to Fossil Fuel Empires! Fossil Fuel Empires are destroying areas like Chaco Canyon and the Gulf of Mexico -- public lands and waters that belong to us. They make millions in profits from these projects.  And what do we get in return? Pollution, oil spills, contaminated water and catastrophic climate change.
Together, we’re starting to turn this around. This year, you helped deliver 1 million petitions asking President Obama to keep fossil fuels in the ground.
It’s making a difference. Because of your activism, 11 auctions were either postponed or cancelled. And the President put a pause on new coal leasing.
But you and I know that’s not enough. He can do much, much more, but he’s running out of time. Tell President Obama to take action to keep fossil fuels in the ground before it’s too late! The science is clear. To prevent catastrophic climate change, we have to keep fossil fuels in the ground. That means no more selling off our public lands and waters, period.  President Obama said so himself: in order to prevent large parts of the Earth from becoming inhospitable and uninhabitable, we need to keep fossil fuels in the ground. It’s time to hold President Obama accountable for his climate commitments. He has the power to stop all new fossil fuel development on public lands and waters. His climate legacy depends on him doing just that. Tell President Obama to establish a real climate legacy and keep fossil fuels in the ground!
Standing with you,
Marissa Knodel,Climate campaigner,
