Dear STJEPAN,
It’s been a rough week: The majority of American voters chose to elect the country’s first female president, but instead, hatred, bigotry, and misogyny won out. We know the weeks, months, and years ahead will not be easy, but we will get through them together and we will come out stronger together, as we always have.
In just under a month from now, The Nation will depart on its annual cruise. In its 19th year, the cruise has long been an opportunity for readers of The Nation to come together and discuss the state of progressive politics—but this year is different. There’s never been a more critical moment for us to gather as one, to not only look ahead at what’s to come, but to plan, organize, examine, and debate. There’s also real truth to the old adage that community brings comfort.
This cruise will feature discussions on US foreign policy under Trump, the way the media unwittingly enabled Trump’s victory, how immigrant communities are organizing in self-defense, the so-called Trump-Russia connection, where the Democratic Party goes from here, plus, and perhaps most importantly, what resistance in the age of Trump actually looks like.
The Nation annual cruise departs from Tampa, Florida, on December 9, sailing to Key West; Mahogany Bay, Honduras; Guatemala; and Costa Maya, Mexico. By joining us in December, you’ll not only play a key part in these discussions, but also help support The Nationitself at this time when our brand of independent journalism could not be more critical to our democracy.
You’ll be accompanied on board by Nation editor and publisher Katrina vanden Heuvel, John Nichols, Laura Flanders, Ari Berman, Dave Zirin, Kimberlé Crenshaw, Dorian Warren, Dennis Kucinich, John Fugelsang, Julianne Hing, Peter Kornbluh, and many others.
We as a community have come together to mourn this week, but now we resist, we rise, and we organize. Please join us.
