This week, the Interior Department's Bureau of Land Management finalized strong limits on the waste of taxpayer owned resources and the dangerous climate pollution the oil & gas industry is venting and flaring on public lands.

For centuries, we've protected federal lands so that future generations of Americans can revel in their splendor, appreciating the bountiful beauty our country has to offer. Now, our government has taken another crucial step to continue this American tradition.

Please join me today in thanking President Obama and Secretary Jewell for finalizing these vital pollution limits.

I know you're wondering where crucial regulations like this will stand under a new administration in January. While it's too early to draw firm conclusions about what the incoming Trump Administration or the next Congress will decide on specific policies or regulations, considering the magnitude of wasted gas from wells on federal lands (more than $330 million worth of natural gas in 2013, according to one recent study), this rule has enjoyed bipartisan support across the West and in the halls of Congress. This is an issue all parts of the political spectrum can and should agree on.

We will defend these crucial regulations—but your support is of the utmost importance. The more Americans stand behind slashing this dangerous pollution, the harder the rule will be to unravel.
