President Obama now has the chance to act boldly to ban offshore drilling along America's Atlantic coast and in our Arctic Ocean once and for all. Or, he could leave the Arctic and its wildlife wide open to Donald Trump and Big Oil — and reopen the Atlantic to drilling in five years.
President-elect Trump has already announced plans to massively expand the production of dirty fossil fuels and roll back the progress we've made on climate change, clean energy and environmental protection. So what happens in the last 60 days of the Obama presidency is more important than ever.
Urge President Obama to permanently ban drilling in the Arctic and the Atlantic — and to act on other critical environmental priorities — before Donald Trump takes office in January.
Donald Trump promises to withdraw from the Paris climate accords, approve the Keystone XL dirty tar sands pipeline and cancel hundreds of clean energy projects. He also promises to expand fossil fuel production, including oil drilling along our coasts.
President Obama has the power today to protect our coasts from Big Oil and Donald Trump — and NRDC is pulling out all the stops to make sure he does the right thing. Earlier this week, our hard-hitting print ad ran in The Washington Post, calling on President Obama to ban offshore drilling in the Arctic and off our Atlantic coast forever.

We're pushing him on other fronts as well: to stop new fossil fuel leasing on our public lands; impose an immediate ban on tar sands oil tankers in U.S. waters; designate the Bears Ears National Monument in Utah and the Greater Grand Canyon Heritage National Monument in Arizona without delay; crack down on the chemical onslaughtdecimating bee and monarch populations; and end U.S. involvement in the shameful ivory trade by proposing to list Africa's elephants as endangered.
It's a tall order. But as Day One of the Trump administration approaches, it's more critical than ever before that President Obama acts, while he still can.
Tell President Obama to finish what he started and strengthen his environmental legacy for generations to come.
