Kršćanska obnova? Što Brexit znači za tradicionalnu Europu

Ujutro 24. lipnja, svijet se probudio s promijenjenom Europom. U tzv Brexit referendumu, Velika Britanija je glasovala za napuštanje Europske unije, a EU je izgubila jednu od svojih najvažnijih zemalja članica. Gotovo odmah je bilo i poziva iz Francuske, Italije i Nizozemske da se održi sličan referendum koji bi ugrozio cijeli eksperiment zvan Europska unija. Iako su brojni analitičari i komentatori interpretirali Brexit kao dokaz novog vala nacionalizma koji se širi Europom i velikim dijelom svijeta, mnogi su propustili istaknuti značaj ovog vala za oporavak konzervativnog tradicionalizma na Zapadu.Činjenica je da svijet prolazi kroz radikalno preslagivanje po nacionalnim odnosno provincijalnim načelima dok stanovništvo sve više rješenje traži iznutra, u svom građanskom i kulturnom ide No, unutar tih tendencija je i proces koji se naziva povratak tradiciji. Zbog činjenice da se globalizacija na neki način suprotstavalja tradiciji i običajima, te religiji i jeziku lokalnih kultura, njeni procesi najčešće nailaze na protu-kulturnu reakciju. Na prijetnje svog lokalnog identiteta, ljudi ispoljavaju svoju religioznost, srodstvo i nacionalne simbole – sve mehanizmi otpora dinamici globalizacije. Rijetko koja zemlja ilustrira ovu vezu između obnove nacionalizma i obnove religijske tradicije kao Ruska Federacija. Došlo je do samosvjesnog udaljavanja od globalizma u Rusiji, preuzevši umjesto toga ideal neo-Bizanta, koji uključuje “snažnu mješavinu pravoslavlja, etničkog misticizma i slavenofilskih tendencija što seže duboko u rusku povijest“. Iz svega ovoga, Rusija je postala, po nekim procjenama, “europski narod koji najviše vjeruje u Boga“. A s ovim narodnim preporodom dolazi povratak tradicionalnih moralnih vrijednosti. Uz Indiju, islamske i afričke narode, Rusi su javno i zakonski odbacili ono što smatraju civilizacijskim samoubojstvom LGBT-aktivizmom i feminizmom. Čak i mnoge istočnoeuropske zemlje koje se osjećaju ugrožene zbog nedavnog porasta militarizma u Rusiji, poput Gruzije i Moldavije, smatraju da su globalizirane sekularne vrijednosti daleko veća prijetnja od same Rusije. Štoviše, trenutni porast nacionalizma u cijeloj Europi dolazi istovremeno s rastom vjerskog konzervativizma u Europi. Imigracija čini kontinent još konzervativnijim. Čak i u Velikoj Britaniji, većina ljudi se još uvijek smatra kršćanima, a imigranti iz Afrike i istočne Europe, posebno katolički Poljaci, su Britaniju učinili religioznijom nego što je bila. Došlo je do rasta evanđeoskih crkva, dok islamski natalitet u Velikoj Britaniji u stvari pada na ispod troje djece po ženi. Sve ovo upućuje na to da kršćanska tradicija ostaje značajan faktor u britanskom kulturnom identitetu i da će se samo povećati u nadolazećim godinama, ako se nacionalistički trendovi nastave. A zasigurno hoće. Ovo oživljavanje nacionalizma ne bismo trebali smatrati privremenim političkim hirom. Zbog toga što globalizacija podrazumijeva vlastitu uzaludnost; kao što je viđeno s pokušajem uvođenja liberalne demokracije na Bliskom istoku. Malo tko je spreman umrijeti za emancipatorsku politiku, feminizam ili LGBT prava. No, spremnost umrijeti za svoju zemlju, narod, običaje, jezik i religiju je naizgled univerzalna. Iako strašan izazivač, globalizacija u biti nema šanse nadvladati takve urođenu vjernosti. Kako slučaj Brexit označava porast nacionalizma u Europi, on istodobno ukazuje na neumoljivo oživljavanje tradicionalnih vrijednosti i normi. I dok postoji niz aktualnih kulturnih osobitosti i paradoksa koji ukazuju na tvrdoglavost sekularizma diljem Zapada, možemo očekivati društvene i kulturne trendove koje će riješiti takve nedosljednosti u korist tradicionalnih vjerovanja i praksa.
