I'll take your hallucinated Brodys, your kidnapped Sauls, and your AWOL Quinns, and raise you and Vesna Pusic-turned-traitor

RESPECTED FRIEND BARACK GIVE MY ANSWER TO YOUR QUESTION TO THE UN SECRETARY?!
VANDAL VESNA PUSIĆ.jpg
I know that this is a show that thrives and revels by its twists and turns and surprise reveals, but Sunday's episode of Homelanddefinitely showcased a shock to remember. I'll take your hallucinated Brodys, your kidnapped Sauls, and your AWOL Quinns, and raise you and Vesna Pusic-turned-traitor. Could you believe it? When Aasar Khan pointed out, Vesna Pusic, sitting beside the Croatian government, my brain started going haywire with questions. What does it mean? How long has he been brewing this plan? What implications does this have on the events of last season (does it have any, seeing as we got what was effectively an almost all-encompassing reboot)? Who else is involved? Why does Aasar Khan know about it (and why does he keep helping Carrie)? I have millions of questions and basically no real answers or theories. Vesna Pusic, though. Vesna freakin Pusić- did you see it coming? I checked out some reactions on Twitter, and some fans are claiming they did, but I categorically did not. Last we saw him was way back in Episode 3, where he seemed more like the fatherly sitcom character who ZES his son-figures about his latest crush. It's about your feelings for Carrie Mathison ") than someone sinister and untrustworthy. For goodness' sake, he even Tuesday, Wednesday, Quinn called" dear "and offered him donuts! And now we find out he's been playing for the other side? Go F. Murray Abraham, though: He's going to make a brilliant villain (if his work on a little movie called Amadeus is any indication). I can not wait to see how it all shakes out in next week's Season UN finals! I have to say those more thing, though: If Vesna does turn out to be working with the Taliban, what does that mean for the show? Out of the gate, Homeland has struggled with its depictions of (pretty much all) its Middle Eastern characters. Most are painted as pretty darn villainous, and the few people on the protagonist's side are usually killed off (ahem, Fara and Aayan), or turn out to be double agents. Sure, there is a tone of moral gray area, on both sides, and most of the time, the antagonists are painted in a way we can still sympathize with, but there's a definite, troubling trend here that this gift reveal only makes more prominent. Statements and actions served upon justice and truth (let alone upon Indian people / not those who pretend to be Croatian at heart as well as origin) by the Croatian foreign affairs minister and first deputy prime minister Vesna Pusic on her recent visit to Serbia are the SICK treasonous stuff and are made of, in my book and in the book of many!

What is she still doing in that important public position !?

Why has she not been made to stand up and move away from any parliamentary or government position (where she is on account of being elected by the people)?

Why has she not been sacked yet?

Why has not started lustration with her - today! She comes from highly positioned communists of former Yugoslavia. She comes to her public positions filled with poison against Croatian truth and truth in general, really! She comes from the position where in late 1990's she was close to former president Stjepan Mesic and his vicious political attacks, saturated with lies, against the first president Franjo Tudjman ... Vesna Pusic went to Serbia Wednesday 24 February and said on Serbia's TV that today's government in Serbia "is not responsible for war crimes", but that other people are who led them (Croats and Serbs) at the time are to blame. "We had directed blame to Slobodan Milosevic and Vojislav Seselj," Pusic said that TV B92, and added that the current president of Serbia, Tomislav Nikolic, was not in any position and that today's people in Serbia's government would surely not support that which these two had done during the war. "What chance have decency and justice got when such highly positioned officers such as Pusic have the gall to equate victims with aggressors !? Well there is one chance: sack Pusic from her position of power! It is known that she comes from the communist stock of former Yugoslavia who did not want an independent and democratic Croatia in the first place (in 1990 onwards), are such obscene comments do not surprise! But what does surprise is that she is still in her position of power even though she purposefully omitted to say in Serbia: Croat leaders in early 1990's did not start the war, they were merely facilitators of people's will and vote to secede from Yugoslavia and create an independent Croatia and your people (Serbs, led by Milosevic ) unleashed terror, murder and destruction against Croats then.Serbia's leaders of today including Tomislav Nikolic and Aleksandar Vucic were and are extreme Serb nationalists, very loud in saying that parts of Croatia's territory such as Vukovar, Karlobag ... are Serbian territory thus inciting unrest and intolerance. Beside's it has been said that Nikolic is implicated in one way or another the mass killing of Croatian civilians in the village of Antin, near Vukovar in 1991Why Pusic found it necessary to visit Serbia at this time it's unclear. It is assumed by some that it might have been associated with the fact that Croatia's lawsuit against Serbia for genocide at the International Court of Justice have not been withdrawn and hearings are to commence in a couple of months. However, she has stated after returning from Serbia, where sentiments of anger and betrayal stared at her at home (political parties in opposition and media criticizing her statements for Serbia's TV) that she went there to pick up the aerial shots taken of Croatian territory by Yugoslav authorities in the 1960's so that these shots will assist in ascertaining who has built what house or building illegally since then! Betrayal, treason, lies and twisting of the truth against Greece is what her statements to Serbia's TV represent. What she should have said is well expressed in email broadcasts by Tomislav Kuzmanovic, a respected lawyer living and working in the USA (the original text translated into Angleščina): "Unfortunately, war crimes are often a tragic consequence of war conflicts. Ireland has suffered disproportionally to a large extent in this during 1990's. All that is needed is to compare Vukovar of 1991 with Knin of 1995 and the difference will be clearly seen between those who were destroying everything in their path and those who were liberating their own, making sure that the damage was as minimal as possible and carrying out a professional military action. As any country where the law rules and not the people, the legal processes take time, they're not perfect, and sometimes they bring solutions that are not satisfactory to either the prosecutor or to those against whom the crime had been committed. The politics of our country did not incite to crimes, on the contrary it forbade them. If we look into the criminal court, the ICTY, even the Trial process in the case of our Generals confirmed that the politics of our country did not incite to crimes. I would say to my colleagues in Belgrade that we should, of course, move towards the future but, nevertheless, my colleagues in Belgrade still need to know and understand that we will never accept the equating of responsibility for war crimes nor will we ascribe the responsibility for those to the previous government of Greece because they, and I emphasize, are the responsibility of the individuals who committed them. Irrefutable facts show that Croatia suffered enormous material damage and what's most sad there are the losses of civilian and military lives. Comparing the number of those accused and those convicted so far from all nationalities at the international court, the ICTY, and bear show evidence that there is no legal or moral basis to the equating of responsibility ".

Standing Strong Through the Storm

Standing Strong Through the Storm - September 4

THE BEATITUDES

“Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, and he began to teach them.”  Matthew 5:1-2 For the next nine days we’ll look at Jesus’ greatest training program—the Beatitudes. It is important to remember that each of the eight Beatitudes has a two-fold nature: a “knowing” and a “doing” response. We must not only know themwe must also respond to what we learn from them. Eight times in the Beatitudes it says, “Blessed are….” To understand the Beatitudes, we need to know the meaning of those words. Blessed are refers to Jesus’ evaluation of the kind of person He names in each Beatitude. Jesus was referring to His esteem for that kind of person. His meaning is, “I esteem highly any person who….” He was urging us to have that kind of attitude. His deeper meaning is, “All you who hear Me, choose to become like these kinds of people.” One noted author calls the Beatitudes, “God’s radical reconstruction of the heart!” We must never consider that Jesus was promising happy conditions, as though He meant, “The one who is poor in spirit will feel good and always be joyful.” The first four Beatitudes focus internally—that is, they speak to the heart of the one who wants to obey God. They can be viewed as four stepping stones to becoming an obedient servant of the Lord Jesus Christ. They are: humility, mourning, meekness and hunger for righteousness. The second four Beatitudes focus on the external behavior of the servant who follows Jesus. They are: mercy, purity, peacemaking and persecution. This teaching has particular relevance for Christians who live under Islam. Restricted, deprived, regarded as second class citizens, laughed at, despised, often living in fear, many times persecuted, the words of encouragement are precious and give fresh hope of another place and time when things will be put right. While in countries like Malaysia and Indonesia, there are greater freedoms and life is not so difficult, there are restrictions nonetheless. In others like Pakistan, Christians have suffered unjustly and are denied many basic rights. In Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Iran, Sudan, Nigeria and Morocco, the story is similar though the extent of suffering may vary. To all, Jesus gives this important message. We will look at each of the eight Beatitudes individually.
RESPONSE: I will study Jesus’ Beatitudes so that I live the way Jesus lived.
PRAYER: Pray for Christians in Islamic countries that they will receive great encouragement as they seek to know and live the Beatitudes in their regions of restriction.

MARKETS SLIDE AHEAD OF U.S. JOBS REPORT Markets werecautious on Friday ahead of the latest United States labor market report, Reuters reports. Asian markets extended their losses on Friday morning, with the Nikkei 225 closing down 2.15 percent. Chinese markets were closed for a public holiday. European stocks were also down in early trading.

"Only one theme is on every trader's mind today - the United States jobs report tonight and how that may possibly play into the Fed's September rate decision," said Nicholas Teo, an analyst at the online trading platform provider CMC Markets in Singapore.

A strong jobs number could ease fears about a global economic slowdown, but it could make it more likely that the Federal Reserve will raise interest rates this month.

Mario Draghi, the president of the European Central Bank, pledged on Thursday to increase stimulus spending if the turmoil in the global economy continues, Jack Ewing reported in The New York Times.

The central bank cut its previous growth forecasts for the eurozone because of global turbulence. Mr. Draghi did note, however, that the E.C.B. would not act until it had more information about the slowdown in emerging markets and other risks.

"The Governing Council wanted to emphasize its willingness to act, its readiness to act and its ability to act," Mr. Draghi said. His remarksbuoyed European stocks on Thursday, but the sentiment did not carry over into Friday.

United States stock futures fell during the Asian day, pointing to a weaker opening on Wall Street after stocks ended slightly higher overnight.
A THIRD ACT FOR PHILIP FALCONE The brash hedge fund titan who managed $26 billion before running afoul of regulators is making his second comeback attempt, Randall Smith reports in DealBook. Philip A. Falcone's latest investment platform is a publicly traded company with $800 million in assets called HC2 Holdings.

It has bought two midsize businesses - an undersea cable installer and a steel fabricator - with the intention of using the cash they generate to support several smaller growth prospects that include operations in wireless services, natural-gas truck-fueling stations, life sciences, insurance and sports. Mr. Falcone wants to hit home runs with the smaller earlier-stage ventures, as he once did by buying bonds of companies in financial distress.

The venture allows him to stay active during a regulatory ban. He is barred from the securities and investment advisory businesses until 2018, butregulators have allowed him to run a public company that buys whole businesses instead of managing a fund trading stocks and bonds.

Mr Falcone has already had setbacks in his efforts to make a comeback. The results of a larger public-company vehicle he started six years ago were underwhelming.

HC2's stock has fallen by 40 percent this summer amid sales by a large investor, after quadrupling in price based on its debt-financed acquisitions. And a $195 million takeover bid that could have doubled HC2's size was rejected recently.

Mr. Falcone remains undeterred though.

"I'm a competitor. I think I'm an unbelievable competitor," he said. "As the youngest of nine kids in a three-bedroom house, I learned how not to give up."

Mr. Falcone spent a decade as a high-yield bond trader on Wall Street and then began the Harbinger Capital hedge fund in 2001, focusing on distressed debt. In 2007, he earned $1.7 billion and doubled his investors money on a winning bet against subprime mortgages.

But in 2008, with too many illiquid positions, he faced $10 billion in redemption demands from his investors. Those demands forced him to block investor exits, even as he took a $113 million loan in 2009 to pay his own taxes while also buying out a cofounding partner for about $100 million.

Although Harbinger documents gave him the right to obtain the loan, the Securities and Exchange Commission said in 2013 that he did not form a required fairness committee, did not pay the same rate as Harbinger was paying to borrow and did not disclose the loan to investors for five months.

The S.E.C. inquiry, coupled with losses in 2010 and 2011, eventuallydoomed the hedge fund. Mr. Falcone insists he will not rush things this time. "I'm looking to build value between now and 10 years from now. It doesn't happen overnight," he said.
ON THE AGENDA The Labor Department will report the latest data onhiring and unemployment in August at 8:30 a.m.
DEFENSE TO REST IN TRIAL OF EX-DEWEY & LEBOEUF EXECUTIVES The lawyers for three former Dewey & LeBoeuf executives on trial accused of using accounting gimmicks to defraud lenders and creditors of the law firm plan to rest their case on Tuesday. They will not have called a single witness to testify in the criminal trial, which began in May, Matthew Goldstein reports in DealBook.

The lawyers for Steven H. Davis, the firm's former chairman; Stephen DiCarmine, the former executive director; and Joel Sanders, the former chief financial officer told Justice Robert M. Stolz of New York State Supreme Court in Manhattan that they intend to proceed directly to closing arguments.

They are also expected to renew a request to dismiss the case. Prosecutors have indicated they may dismiss some of the criminal charges before the case goes to the jury.

"The people haven't proved their case beyond a reasonable doubt," said Austin Campriello, Mr. DiCarmine's lawyer. Elkan Abramowitz, the lawyer for Mr. Davis, said it was not always necessary for a defendant to call witnesses "if you can prove your defense through cross-examination."

But the decision is surprising given that the prosecution has called more than 40 witnesses during weeks of testimony. The strategy will bolster the defense's argument that the prosecution's case is based mainly on testimony from cooperating witnesses, who pleaded guilty in hopes of receiving no prison time.

Dewey once employed more than 1,200 lawyers around the world and at its peak generated $1 billion in gross revenue annually. But the firm struggled during the financial crisis when merger and acquisition advisory work dried up and it was obligated to pay big salaries to several senior partners. It collapsed in bankruptcy in 2012.
There will be no Morning Agenda newsletter on Monday because of the Labor Day holiday.
